DVC Transfer Question

I'm a new member to DVC. I'm confused about the one time transfer per year rule and what is considered a transfer. Are banking and borrowing both considered a point transfer? Is this only allowed once a year?

I just purchased a resale contract with a March use year and points will become available in March 2021 but I want to book my trip before that date. Will I have to borrow points and will this become my transfer for 2020 or 2021?

TIA

Banking and borrowing are not transfers. A transfer is moving points from one member(ship) to another.

Do you want to travel before March 2021? If so, that would be borrowing.

Transferring involves two different memberships. Sometimes a member has two or more use years, and those members transfer from one UY to another.

If you want to book in your 2021 UY, you can do that any time within the 11 month home resort booking time. You do not have to wait to March to book.

Points don’t become available on the UY date, It simply is the date that starts what is considered your current UY.

Points are based on time of travel and not when you book. It’s all about the trip and when it happens.

So, you could call today and book any room with those March 2021 UY points as long as the trip will start March 1st or later. You would only need to borrow if you wanted to take a trip prior to that date which would be in your March 2020 UY...which is your current UY.

Transfers have to do with moving points to another membership, either owned by someone else, or yourself if you more than one UY.

Thank you so much for answering my question. I knew I could count on the Disboards!
