My DH and I made an appointment to talk with DVC rep on a recent cruise. I think the rep must have been having a bad day because the main point of his discussion appeared to be that DVC is a good deal and if you don't buy into it right now, you're stupid. He discouraged us from asking questions and overall my DH and I both viewed it as the only negative experience we had on an otherwise fantastic cruise. (Again, I realize the rep may have been rushed or may have had other problems he was dealing with when he talked with us.)

Despite this, we are still looking into DVC. We'll be at Disneyworld around Christmas for about a week. I thought while we were there we might try to arrange a tour of some of the DVC properties but have a few questions that some of you might help me with.

Will the DVC rep take you to a resort other than SSR if you ask? We are most interested in Key West even if our home resort is SSR.

Can we generally expect the same type of Disney friendliness from the DVC rep who would take us on a tour as we have have come to expect from the CMs at the parks? Our recent experience has made me a little hesitant about even suggesting a tour to my DH.

I've been lurking here on the DVC discussion boards for the last month and have learned a lot about some of the advantages of DVC ownership (like discounts on Annual passes --- not mentioned at all by the DVC rep we talked to). I'm still not sure that DVC is right for us but would love to look at some of the properties to help me make that decision.

The models and offices are at SSR. You probably won't be able to take a tour of another resort because they are only selling points at SSR. Plus, at Christmas, there won't be many open villas to check out. Of course, you can drive or take a bus to the other DVC locations and check them out on your own.

If you want points at OKW, you may want to check it out on your own, and get a resale somewhere. If you want to buy from Disney, they used to have a waitlist for resales, not as quick as from Timeshare Store, the board sponsor whom people here recommend.

Actually, Disney CAN sell points at the other sold out DVC resorts, but as mentioned, there are not sales offices at any of the others any more, so it might be difficult to see a room at the others. DVC expects 100% capacity most times, so the only way you might get to view a room is if you stop by and ask at the front desk if there is one open for you to see. I would think this might be difficult at holiday time especially.

When we were at SSR last year they did offer to take us to OKW and said that we could see rooms if we asked at the front desk.

Be sure to ask for a new guide. Once your name gets recorded to someone it can be hard to shake them. Tell the people at the DVC sales office about your experience (they need to hear it!) and ask them to assign you to someone new.

Thanks for the suggestion about the change in guides Pearllieq. I would not want to continue any association with the DVC rep we talked to before but I'm also not looking to make any trouble for him. I'm just hoping for a more positive experience if we ask for a tour.

DH and I bought into SSR onboard the DCL in '04. We toured the SSR after the cruise as we were staying a few days at WDW. Well, SSR is beautiful but we felt it was a little large and spread out for us. So, one afternoon, my friend that vacationed with us and I went to several of the DVC resorts on our own and asked at the front desk each time if it were possible to view some of the different rooms.

Everyone was so nice and after viewing the rooms and several resorts, I fell in love with BWV and took DH there for him to see. He felt the same way! When we got home, we cancelled our Disney SSR contract and bought resale at the resort that we fell in love with!

So yes, if there are some rooms empty, they are nice enough to show you around. Sorry about the guide that gave you a hard time. That's really totally different than our experience! Our guide on the ship was very calming with no pressure at all! I can tell you that if my husband had felt pressured in any way, he would not have bought.

meb51,

You can ask for another guide. We have a great guide....use his name (Greg Coots). If you want his phone number PM me. Good Luck, Debbie
