Our family is going the first week of January. We are very interested in a DVC, but are not sure right now is the best time to buy. When we do buy, it will probably be a resale. We would like to take a tour and see all of the perks. Would they be willing if we didn't plan to buy that day and will probably buy resale? How long would the tour take? We would definitely be upfront about our intentions.

Anyone can take a tour, just make an appointment at any DVC kiosk. They don't pressure you into making a decision on the spot. I don't know how long the tours take now, when I did mine 9 years ago I was there for about 2 hours or so (but I was going to buy). Also you don't have to tell then you are thinking of buying resale, that is my opinion. Go see what they offer you for current incentives.

When I did my tour, I told them up front that I would like to finance and they gave me all the numbers and figures but I didn't close the deal that day. After I had all my information from them and the book they gave me I went back to my hotel and thought about it. I also figured out my budget for financing. I called my guide hte next day, set up another appointment and the rest is magical history :)

Go have fun and ask all the questions that you need to ask. Trust me you will not feel any pressure about buying.

We've been to BCV to eat at Cape May Cafe. We didn't see the inside of a room, but I loved the resort. We've also been to WL numerous times to eat at Whispering Canyon. I know we're going to love it. Our 8 year old DD will probably put the most pressure on us. I just didn't want to take a lot of our time or the tour guide if they weren't going to make a sale.

I don't know about financing in this economy.

Ours took about 2 hours, but we knew we were buying and signed that day.

We also really didn't need the whole "walk through of the perks" because we read through the Dream Book a few dozen times. We only really cared about seeing the AKV demo rooms and the layout of GV (which was SSR, but you got the general idea of layout/size).

In the end though, it's VERY low pressure and you can stop them at anytime if you don't care to see anymore.

Someone else mentioned financing, and I can tell you it has been tightened down even for Disney direct financing. Financing on the open market may be even harder.

You do know tht you can buy ANY of the resorts from your Disney guide don't you? The other ones are more effort to get, and you won't get the extra incentives but if you push, you can get the other resorts (you may have to wait for points to become available as they ROFR them).

We just went through at tour while we were at Disneyland (a mock up of what the rooms will look like at least). It took around an hour or so for the tour and information to be given, however, we were purchasing so it took around two hours.

They definitely do not pressure you in the process. Even their "on-site" offers and incentives last for several days after you return home, unlike other timeshares who set their hooks in you and claim that you can't take advantage of their deals unless you sign up immediately.

The rest of the tour is also a good break from the parks. You can take the tour while your kids are entertained in their game room. They want to keep you happy, so they are offering you sodas and snacks throughout the meeting (compared to the prices at the park, why say no??). When it is all over, they drive you back to the front of the park and drop you off with a handful of fastpasses to use as you see fit. We ended up with 20 fastpasses, so waiting in lines was drastically reduced on this trip.

While I'm sure they love it when you pony up right on the spot, there is no pressure to do it right then. I would guess that those who sign up right then are the minority- it's a pretty significant outlay for most people.

They really do go far out of their way to make the entire sales pitch smooth, easy, and pressure free. It almost seemed like they were even suggesting that we go home and think it over (although they definitely gave the opportunity to do it then). However, for the wife and I, what we had seen at the BWV display had us strongly leaning towards joining, and the displays at SPR sealed it.

I would not take a tour with children. I don´t know but, I would like to take this seriously without children pressure. Also it could be frustating for they to visit and know what people can get in Disney and if parents can not or decide not to buy, they could be disappointed, specialy the youngers.

We have a 20 month old and an 8 year old. I don't think the 20 month old will do well in a game room, however I know the tour would be easier without him. Do they offer other options for children?

Thank you everyone for your advice and experiences.

We were checking out, when I had to stop to wait for my DW and I happen to stop right in front of the DVC kiosk. 3 hours later, we came out with a new home!!!!

Mine took an hour,I walked in and said,``I`m on Disney time and you`re on commission time, save the sales pitch,I`m here on my sister`s DVC staying at OKW,lets get right to the numbers``the easiest sale Larissa ever had.

We got 5 free fast pass express cards to boot just for touring.

I have three kids. My oldest ones are 6 and 4 and had a great time in the kids activity center. My youngest is only 13 months old, so the activity center was not for her. While taking the tour, she remained in her stroller and seemed to be pretty interested (in my opinion). When we returned back to the office, we had our own secured room where they showed us the dvd and went over the financing options. The room had plenty of room for her to crawl around and they had a bucket load of toys, books, and puzzles available for her to keep busy with. Disney is designed for families, ultimately they will do what ever they can to keep you, and your kids, happy while you take your tour. On that note, my two oldest kids didn't want to leave the activity center when we were done. They were having so much fun that they almost didn't want to head back to Disneyland!

Funny...but alas...no commissions...

Looks like we won't need a tour after all. We made an offer on a resale today. Just waiting for Disney's ROFR. Thank you everyone for your advice.
