My family and I are going to Disney in December and we'll be staying offsite. I want to use our "relaxing" day and take a DVC tour... who do I need to call and is there a main office that I will have to drive to to take the tour? where is it at?

I understand if you are staying on property they will pick you up but I'll be at a condo off property.

How long is the tour and will I get any cool freebie for doing it? I know I won't be able to purchase DVC when I take the tour (maybe in a few years) but I'd like to see the villas and just hear what they have to say. Am I wasting their time going on the tour if I know I'm not going to purchase?

I'll probably be taking the tour with my mom while my husband and dad stay back in the condo and relax (you know men! they are just like little kids and need some time to decompress. lol. ;) J/K!)

thanks everyone! :goodvibes

I swear, I'm going to be a DVC member someday :thumbsup2 .. even if I have to buy a tiny itty bitty contract just for me so I can go to disney one weekend out of the year alone! (my husband isn't into disney as much as I am :guilty: )

I guess I'd wait if I were you. First of all, if you take the tour, you will be given special incentives for signing up right then. Those incentives will no longer be available to you if choose to wait, so it's best to take the tour when you think you are ready to buy. If you are not used to staying on site, there is not going to be as much of a perk for you price wise from joining DVC. The best part of DVC is the deluxe on-site accommodations. If staying on-site has never been your habit, it might not make sense to you. If you still decide you want to tour while you are there, just contact the folks at any DVC kiosk in the parks or DTD and they will arrange a tour for you. DVC is a timeshare that kind of sells itself, so there are no big "freebies" for taking the tour. The most you could get is a dish of ice cream and maybe a fast pass, but that's about it.

We were in WDW the first week of March and although we stayed on property and there was a DVC CM on-site all day, there are booths set up in each park as well as at DTD.

The CM at our resort tried to get us to go to one but we were on our 2nd to last day and didn't have time. They were giving out "Dream Fastpasses" and Disney Gift Cards. She told me that they don't have the ability to sell you anything right then and there. She said you go for the tour, they show you around, and then give you a packet of info with contact phone numbers and things like that. She said it's very low pressure and even if you WANTED to opt in right there during your tour, the CM guiding you won't be able to do it. I guess they want people to go home and think about it before signing on the dotted line. Not sure if this holds true for ALL DVC tours, but this is what the CM we talked to told us.

Good luck!

wow, thanks for the opinions. I just would hate to waste their time, but at the same time I REALLY would love to at least look at the villas ... especially the AKV!

maybe I'll wait and see if a get some more responses. :cool1:

If you take the tour now, and decide to wait you can still get the incentives. We toured twice then bought our first contract resale. Keep in mind that the Guide that you meet with on the tour is your Guide for life. The real estate laws in your home state dictate where and when you may enter into a contract. In some states you need to do the deal in person, in other states you can do it over the phone. Some require a cooling off period, others don't.

Unless that has changed they is not true. We bought in 2002 and bought on the spot when we toured. So I dont know why they told you that.:confused3

I was at Disney the last week in February. I told a salesman at Downtown Disney that I already had the info pack, but would like to look around. He looked me up on the computer, and called for a golf cart to take me to Saratoga Springs. The salesman who I had spoken to on the phone came down, and showed me around. Very low to no pressure, especially (maybe) because I told him I couldn't take another vacation until late 2009. I received absolutely no gifts--except some cookies, and ice cream (which I turned down).

Take the tour. We spent a few days in WDW before a Magic cruise laste month and wish we had taken the tour.

On the cruise we killed some time with A DVC presentation and are hoooked now. We're just trying to pick a home.

And to think of all the years that avoided the DVC kiosks like the plague!!

What kind of incentives might they offer? Freebies like fast passes or discounts on memberships?

My DW and I are very interested in buying in and were thinking about making a trip to WDW for a couple of days and touring some of the resorts. To be honest, it's pretty much just a ploy to get to go to WDW again....:rotfl2:

Another question, will Disney take us to see all of the DVC resorts at WDW???

My salesguide showed me the AK mock-ups at Saratoga Springs. He then suggested that I drive over to AK myself and look around.

Take the tour - it's well worth it, and there is no high pressure to buy right then, though they certainly are persuasive to a slight degree - they are sales people after all. We took the tour once, thanked them - and took the fast passes and ice cream, and went home at the end of the week without having joined. I was back myself earlier this year, and basically took the tour again, with the same persuasive low key sales pitch - but nobody was pressuring or anything like that. It was definitely worth it to see it twice - though now I wish we had joined that first day! :lmao: Oh well, we're looking forward to years of enjoyment. Take the tour!

I'd say tour with your husband! You might be surprised by his attitude towards DVC once he sees everything for himself.

We did the tour about two years before we bought in. We got a "Dream Book" that was a hardcover book with all the resorts and info in it. It was a helpful resource when we bought in.

That's a lot different than when we first toured, but then that was about 14 years ago!

thanks everyone  - I have decided I'm going to go ahead and call them and ask about taking the tour making sure they know ahead of time that I have no intention of buying just yet. (My goal is to save up at least half of the money - if not more - so I won't be TOO far in debt when I finally buy in).

btw, someone got the impression that I don't usually stay on site when I go to Disney which isn't true.. I just normally stay at the value or moderate resorts though... and would love to be able to try out the deluxe resorts and I think DVC is my way to do it. In addition to the DVC tour (which will probably only take me over to Saratoga Springs) I plan on going over the WL and BW and maybe BC if I have time just to get a feel for the resorts themselves.

thanks again everyone! I'm so excited just to know I will be taking the tour and will be one (small) step closer to becoming a DVC member! :yay:

ooh, one more question! When you take the tour is it a one on one thing or do you go with other people who are interested in DVC?

Approximently how much time do the tours take? Also I'm staying at WL, if I go to the DVC desk there, will they just take me on a quick tour at one of the WL rooms?

No,they will not. You can go to any of the DVC desks in the resorts or the parks. They will set up an appointment for you and supply transportaion to and from SSR for you and that where the presentation takes place.
So anywhere you see a DVC kiosk just stop by and talk to them they will get you set up for a DVC tour.
