We will be at Disney in October and are interested in DVC. Since we are from eastern Canada we have to buy once there. I'd like to take the tour and then take some time to think about it and possibly purchase on our next vacation.

My question is, will they let us take the tour if we aren't buying then and how long does the tour take?

Sure, you can take the tour even if you aren't ready to purchase. The tour will usually take about 90 minutes, but they can also tailor it to meet your needs. Child-care is provided during the tour and everyone can enjoy ice cream at the end. You can make tour arrangements at any WDW resort or at any of the DVC kiosks located in each Theme Park and also at DD.

Enjoy! :)

remember that you can get very thorough information here on the DIS - take your time and scan through any threads that might be of interest (for example, the thread on the 2010 pt chart changes is very informative but hugely long). look at the point charts linked above and scan through the pictures of the resorts.

i didn't take a tour before buying but thanks to the helpful folks here, i had a more complete understanding of how DVC works than many who did take a tour...

Take the tour early in your trip. They will pick you up and take you anywhere you want after the tour!!! One perk for taking the tour is the free fastpasses they give you! They are good for any park, any ride, and any time, as long as the fast pass kiosks are open!!! The tour is very laid back with no pressure to buy!!! Enjoy...

I agree with Bill 0% pressure get the fastpass's and don't forget the Ice Cream when your done. Then they will take you to wherever you'd like to be dropped off at when tour is done....Shawnpirate:

I would also suggest using a referral before you even start the tour. That way if the incentives stay as they are you will save yourself some cash!! :thumbsup2

When we were there last month we spoke to a very nice DVC rep. at one of the parks who gave us a referral. The next day was our last but we are going back in Nov. and want to take the tour. Do we need a referral? I hate to cut out the man we spoke to last month. :confused3

When you buy, there are sometimes additional discounts if you have the name of a current DVC member act as your "referral". Most people here on the DIS are more then willing to act as your referral. There is a thread that you can click on to find the name of someone willing to be your referral. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2215972

If you still have this person's name, then I would use that. If not, just get the name of a current member so that you know you will be eligible for the best deals!

Good luck!!

T he tour is very low pressure. We origianlly purchased from the mock up they have in Woodfield Shopping Mall near Chicago IL.
I took the tour in May 09 at WDW with my brother in law as he is interested.
They picked us up from Animal kingdom and dropped us off at Old Key West.
We got 8 fastpasses (two each) and cookies and Ice Tea then we had ice cream. Even though I briefed my in law ALL questions were answered during the tour. Once my in-law saw the points chart it all made sense to him.

I'm really excited that AKV now has a model available for show! A couple questions... Are the fast passes available for only that day or for the next day? I was planning on stopping by since we'll be staying at AKL but will they still provide the FPs (or should I just go the park)? My niece won't be too crazy about stopping there for a while if she's worried about ride lines. :-/

Thanks for this thread! I was looking everywhere for it! :)

*poke*

I'm still hoping someone has an answer to my question. I'm leaving in a couple of days (woohoo!) so it'd be great to know beforehand.

Thanks!

We have done the tour twice; the first time was in May 07, we view the rooms and fell in love, my husband and I were certain that we were only viewing and not buying, we were not prepared to buy, they needed our passports so we arranged to go back the following day. Before we left for ice cream our DVC guide gave us fast passes and took us back to Magic Kingdom, they worked all day. We went back the following day to buy and it was a our last day, we did all the paperwork and had ice cream again but we didn't have tickets to go back into the parks, they gave us $30 on gift cards instead of fasspasses.

The second time was May 08 and we were given fastpasses, if I remember correctly we used them throughout our stay, we only used them on rides we really wanted to go on and that had a really long que like Sorin, we did Sorin a couple of times over a couple of days with the fasspasses.

I hope this answers your question. The fasspasses give you an instant time to enjoy the ride rather than coming back hours later.

The FastPasses are not a given and are at the sole discretion of the guide. Don't be afraid to ask. They are good for 3 consecutive park days which usually includes the day you take the tour unless it's extremely late in the day (I don't know the exact hour it flips).

We had actually toured 3 times before we bought this past June. We have gotten Fastpasses 2 of the 3 times but not the other time.

Does everyone get their own fastpass.....we are taking this tour and need to know if we should bring our kids (teens) so all of us can take advantage of this IF offered.

Yes...we are really interested in DVC.

I believe that everyone on the tour would be given the fast passes so if you can bring the teens, it would probably work out to your benefit!!!

Good luck!!
