DVC to ever get the Ultimate Ambience?

DVC needs to offer in my opinion the "ultimate" deluxe experience for some of us to consider purchasing. By this I mean:

1) Theming and ambience which transports you to a different place
2) Prime amenities - has that covered with their offerings of 1 and 2 BR suite like accomodations (restaurants, etc)
3) Transportation convenience (no monorail but that isnt end of world)

Unfortunately for some of us cash-paying resort snobs , DVC passes all of the tests except item 1. The only place that offers a true "escape" that I can think of at DVC would be a boardwalk view at the BW Villas (and that is even a stretch). And this probably represents considerably less than 1% of the total DVC room inventory?

I can think of nothing better than spending a day at the parks and retiring to a balcony to escape to an exotic ambience with an incredible view that makes you feel like you are somewhere else (shouldnt they offer this similar to a Poly/GF/Contemp lagoon view or AKL Savannah resort experience). I was thinking before my last trip that maybe BCV epcot view would fall into this category, but hearing diesel bus engines from the nearby public road totally killed that idea.

Please DVC, offer the general public some villas at the Contemporary, GF, Polynesian, or AKL. These would sell instantly.

I happen to think that DVC does offer fantastic theming and ambiance. In EVERY room. I would much prefer to be in a spacious one-bedroom (or even studio) in a DVC resort than in any other deluxe hotel room on WDW property. I think the decor is perfect for the theme of each DVC resort. Don't forget that there are poor views at the deluxe hotels too, only you're spending a lot more money to stay in them than you would with DVC.

Give Disney time. Saratoga probably won't be sold out until 2007 or 2008. Then I believe Eagles Pines will be the next resort and that probably won't be sold out until 2012. Then Disneye will add to Grand Floridian and other resorts.

The sales of their current resorts are doing just fine so I don't think they are in any hurry to spend the money to add to the Grand Floridian as those points would probably sell in less than 30 days. It is not cost effective for them as this point.

I guess you will have to wait to join until then at say $125 per point in 2012 or join now and use the points at other resorts until then.

Good Luck!!

I too don't particularly agree that this is lacking in a major sense. But, maybe you should take your question to Disney Vacation Club Development. It would be interesting to see their response.

The ultimate would be the Polynesian Villas, they could sell these for probably $125 per point and sell them in a month I would bet. Originally, Disney's plans for the Polynesian included a high-rise facilities surrounded by longhouses similar to the longhouses today (although obviously the high-rise never made it off of the drawing board). Check out this link for an illustration ----> http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/poly1_5.html

Could they build some variation of this today? The demand I think would sure be there.

And to a previous poster, I am not saying that you arent happy with what you have as obviously many of you value the extra space along with the discounted prices you originally invested as "worth it". But what I am saying, they should offer BOTH "facilities for families and the like" AND "the best ambience on property". That would sell in a NY minute !!

I actually feel transported to a different place/time at every Disney resort, DVC or otherwise. I think they great theming, IMO. I think themeing at Disney is quite good, and I certainly feel transported, because none of them feel like Boston is 2005. :rotfl:

I think the DVC resorts ARE themed. OKW certainly gives me that old Florida embiance, and SSR has the small town Saratoga Springs feel. Wilderness Lodge certainly feels like the Northwest, and BWV and BCV are themed like coastal city resorts. Have you ever stayed at ANY of these? If not, you wouldn't "get it".

IMHO, it already exists. Take a look at these two pictures from the BWV from the Grand Villa we stayed in last Thanksgiving. The room and the amenities are on par with anything anywhere at WDW. We stayed in the Grand Floridian for New Year's a month and a half ago and a grand villa at the Boardwalk is far superior in many ways than our 2 lagoon view rooms put together.

I guess that I don't think the same way as you. I do feel transported at the DVC resorts. I don't have to stay at the AKL or Poly to feel that.

I certainly feel that BWV is on par with deluxe resorts at WDW. Doesn't matter to me what the view is. Come to think of it - not all views at those other resorts are prime, are they?

Anyway, interesting read, but I'm not with ya on this one.

I don't think its happening. DVC is a timeshare. You seem to want the ambiance of a hotel room. Even if DVC builds at the Poly (and I don't think that will happen as they have plenty of cash guests at that location), it will remain a timeshare.

There have been ongoing rumors of DVC Contemporary, but that doesn't really transport you. Theming has always been the CR weak spot.

VWL does transport you, but apparently not in the manner you are content with.

The BW and BC are two of Disney's premier resorts with DVC accomodations, and as nice as the Grand Floridian in terms of theming, some of the best dining in WDW, but that doesn't do it for you.

You seem to want a MK DVC, and I have my doubts that Disney will ever turn over that sort of prime real estate to the timeshare business - and if they do, I doubt it will be at a very affordable price.

Seems to me that Disney is already servicing your needs by providing deluxe accomodations that you like. Selling out in a NY minute isn't what Disney's after. All that means is that they didn't charge enough.

DVC resorts have great theming...they don't need deluxe theming.

Great pics. I'll be there in less than two months with that view(not a grand villa, but a BW view).

It's so funny how protective most everyone seems to be about Disney and DVC. I mean in its own way it is very charming...but at the same time, it might stop people from posting their true feelings at times.

Nothing is perfect...even Disney magic....and someone posting what ifs or if only's....well, that can be kind of charming too, don't ya think?

My heart lies at the POLY..but only because I was engaged there one night at the luau. And after the luau...we kinda took advantage of a then quiet section of a white sand beach to ahhhh seal the deal. And THEN we went b
ack to our (now it is Hawaii concierge but then it was Tonga at $87 a night)
room with castle view, sat on the balcony and just fell in love with the POLY.
SO, would I simply LOVE a DVC with a POLY view of the castle and a sand beach...oh dear me YES YES YES! Could I pay for it....probably not :rotfl2:

But hey...we have Disney magic and we can dream can't we?

RIght now, I'd be oh so happy to be able to find a 100 point contract at a good price! But yea, if Tinkerbell would hit me with some fairy dust and I could transport myself into whatever DVC property I could IMAGINE...yep, for me it would be across the lagoon from the castle. and while we were at it...maybe Tink could erase the nasty divorce from that guy who proposed at the luau and make all my dreams come true!

Ok, enough drivel...what I guess i'm saying is: I doubt anyone would be here unless he/she loved all things Disney. But sometimes things are less than perfect anywhere...even with magic and fairy dust. I might want to complain about something...like I did with the view at my savannah room AKL (of a dusty and EMPTY PEN)...but egad, don't blast me for having a bad attitude.
Cause I love Disney and I really love my memories of years ago Disney...and sometimes I think old Mikey needs a reminder that MONEY wasn't the only thing at Walt's heart.

OK...done lecturing. Love you guys! :love1:

A huge part of Ambience includes the "view from your balcony" component. There is a reason why Disney charges $75-$100 (and gets it) for a lagoon view for their MK and Epcot resorts (and more points for the few BWV units that offer it). No its not worth it to everyone.

I am talking about the ultimate in view and ambience here. And to a previous poster that was poo-pooing the Villas at the Contemporary Resort and the lack of theme there - the view outside the balcony onto the MK and fireworks IS a huge part of its appeal. it woudl sell instantly IMO ...

DVC take it to the ultimate !! We can all dream here cant we?

When we walked into our two bedroom dedicate villa on Old Turtle Pond at OKW in January, it was just like I was wisked away to heaven. All the stresses that I had early in the day driving down and two days before at work were gone. Even spending a day in bed at OKW being sick is relaxing.

OKW covers all three bases with me.

Just because people don't agree with your POV doesn't mean they aren't posting their true feelings... ;)

Sure. But methinks you might have insulted a few people by implying that YOUR "Ultimate Ambiance" should also be THEIR "Ultimate Ambiance." In case you haven't noticed, there are some folks here who have pretty fond memories of their DVC Homes, and love watching Illuminations from their balcony just as much as you love that beach at the Poly.

Wrong.

If you read around a bit more, you'll find there aren't many with blinders on around here. We've been around the block enough to know the good, the bad and the ugly.

As far as your original question, I wouldn't count on any DVC rooms at the Poly. The ground in that area is probably too unstable for additional construction. They tried to build a 4th resort nearby on the monorail line a couple of times; -the concrete test pilings were swallowed up by the swamp below.

The best chance for a DVC resort on the monorial is the Contemporary resort. Those rumors have been floating around for at least 18 months now--probably longer. Earlier this year it was announced that the Contemporary will be gutted and redesigned in the very near future. As soon as more details of that project become public, we'll know for certain whether the Contemporary Villas will ever happen or not.

I suppose I'm in the minority but, to me, rooms with a view are either overpriced, overrated or overly-hard to get.

I'm here and I don't love all things Disney. Today it is all about the money and it has been that way since 1984. I love it when folks bring up topics that I disagree with like the OP did in this post. Sometimes I will post and at other times sit back and enjoy the ride. But I also happen to agree that a MK DVC would sell out faster than anything, even the BCV (although the BCV would have sold out faster and at a higher price had it not come to market following 9-11).

So lets keep hearing about the less than perfect experinces and lets keep discussing them.

BTW: Walt knew how to make money as good as anyone. He learned his lessons well and did what he had to do to make those dollars.

I have to agree with you MisterDisney that if you are talking about "the ultimate view" it would have to be of the Castle and the MK.

But so many other things go into the perfect location that I can't say that a distant view of the Castle from the Poly (where on my last stay, I had to get off the monorail at the TTC to easily get to my room) is any better than the pictures I posted of the view of EPCOT and Crescent Lake and the fact that I can walk to 2 parks.
