I'm thinking of taking my godchild to Disneyland next year for her 21st birthday. I've been there once, back in 1999 but didn't stay there or belong to DVC. What are the accomodations like? How do the park admission tickets work? Do they have a "hopper" like WDW? Any info you have would be valuable to me. I've learned so much from all of you on this board, I want to take this time to thank you all.

As a So. Cal. resident I will answer what I can!!
There are no DVC resorts in CA (yet I hope) but you can stay at the California Grand, Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel on your DVC points. As far as I know (and this is where I could be wrong) these are just regular hotel rooms, although they do have conceirge levels like osome of the WDW resorts. The CA Grand is the nicest hotel of the three, although the room are not extra large or anything, the hotel is just more elegant (and I really LOVE the restaurants at that hotel). Paradise Pier has a great Japanese restaurant which may be why it is so popular with Japanese tourist. Just a little extra info, origionally neither the Paradise Pier nor the famed Disneyland Hotel were built by Disney, they purchased them later. CA Grand is the only one built by Disney. Oh and as far as pools, the coolest pool of the three is by far at the DH, its a Neverland Theme Pool.

Disneyland does have a park hopper ticket option just like WDW. And it is worth your while, in my opinion, because CA Adventures closes earlier and you can still have time to enjoy DL after it closes.

Hope that helps! When is you goddaughter's b-day?

She doesn't turn 21 until next July-but since I joined DVC I've gotten addicted to advance planning!! I was looking at taking her in June, so that it doesn't interfere with any summer internship or job that she may have.
I was thinking of 5 nights, so we could do some touristy stuff other than Disney.

Are any of the hotels like the studios in WDW with microwaves and fridges? It would be less expensive if we could at least eat breakfast in the room.

Do DVC members get any discounts on the park tickets? I know we only get AP discounts at the World, but it's a nice discount.

Although they do have suites! But the website does not list the kitchen appliances. I would call to check!

I just returned from DL and stayed at the DLH, we had a queen bed and table 2 chairs and a small ref. The room was very nice but to me the cool thing was the balcony, there wasnt one! the doors opened up and it seemed like you were outside just the rail, if you stay there get a DTD veiw if you can. :cool1:

You might try posting this on the Disneyland forum boards.

We are going this year, but are not using any DVC points, since the cost is huge! Next year, it should be so bad, however.

All three of the hotels have refrigerators, but the ones at the Grand Californian are a stocked mini bar. If you ask at check in they will bring you a empty one at no charge. Coffee maker, but no microwaves. Disneyland Hotel and the Grand are my favorites.

You can use your points at DL resorts. We prefer the GC there. It is similar to WL or AKL at WDW -- spectacular theming!

Depending on you length of stay you should check out their annual pass system -- I believe DVC members get a discount (check on that online before making a decision). We did when we last went and that made the AP a really good deal for us. We even got in an extra trip to DL on another west coast holiday with it. Their AP has other discounts attached to it as well.

DL is a smaller property, so going from park to park to resort is an easy walk. Many of the rides there have slight differences from the equivalent WDW ride. We actually prefer some of the DL versions to the WDW versions -- pirates at DL is our favorite.

Enjoy :)
