They have to reside at the same address as a member. The way the info has been worded, you could get up to 8 passes at at time for anyone living at the same address as the member presented. Nothing has suggested it's 8 per year, only 8 at a time PER MEMBER. You should be able to add a name for as little as a hundred and fifty dollars (transfer fee of $100 plus recording costs). Of course it you went through a full service broker, it could get up to $600 or so. I have heard one rumor that DVC has increased the transfer fee to $200 but I haven't checked it out and doubt it's accurate.y2khardtop said:The website says that up to 8 adults can get the AP discount, but ONLY if they reside at the same address. It is on the DVC website.

I'm sure we'll see some changes over the next few months and some unequal enforcement, per Disney standards. What has been reported is that any member can present an ID card to purchase 8 per household. Nothing suggests it's 8 per household for the entire year, only 8 per household at a time. And certainly if there are unique members in different households, DVC would not be able to deny them. Plus, nothing we've seen so far would suggest that the person presenting the card has to actually purchase themselves. I guess they could change the limit per contract or per number of points but that will simply create new wrinkles, not take away the chance for some to use it for their advantage. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Assuming this perk is actually costing DVC nothing, I doubt they'll really care much about how many passes one can amass.WebmasterDoc said:
You may want to verify with DVC the definition they will use for "member". It may mean each name on the contract, as Dean suggests, but it may also have another meaning. Right now DVC claims something like 86,000 "members" and insist that number represents unique memberships and not the number of contracts owned or the number of names on the contracts.
The number of passes allowed could be eight per unique member. I have been told that my wife and I count as 1 unique member within the collective 86,000+ members of DVC. Even though we, together, own several contracts, we are counted as 1 of the total number of DVC members.
Before going to the expense and trouble of adding names to a deed just to get the AP discount, it might be wise to make sure that action will accomplish what you're really after.
If you get a definitive answer, please report back!
Dean said:Doc, correct me if I'm wrong. Are you saying that DVC may try to define the term member in a way to address the above issues. If so, I'd take issue with you on that. The term member is defined in the POS as ANY owner. IMO, if DVC goes through with this, they will be stuck with the implications both good and bad. The only options they'd have to reasonably have any control would be to limit passes per contract or per number of points. Otherwise EVERY owner (who has a membership card) will be able to get passes, 8 at a time. It will be interesting to see the stories that come out in the new 6 months or so.
