My parents come to WDW with us quite often and I was wondering if I added them to the deed on our DVC ownership would they then be entitled to the discounted AP?

That's a very interesting question! I know they would have to be listed as an owner, and they would have a different address from yours. I'd call your guide and ask that one!

It can be risky to add others to your deed. If they divorce, declare bankruptcy or die, etc. you may have problems that will cost you $$ to resolve.
Best wishes -

The website says that up to 8 adults can get the AP discount, but ONLY if they reside at the same address. AND you have to have drivers' licenses or other legal documents proving they live with you.

It is on the DVC website.

They have to reside at the same address as a member. The way the info has been worded, you could get up to 8 passes at at time for anyone living at the same address as the member presented. Nothing has suggested it's 8 per year, only 8 at a time PER MEMBER. You should be able to add a name for as little as a hundred and fifty dollars (transfer fee of $100 plus recording costs). Of course it you went through a full service broker, it could get up to $600 or so. I have heard one rumor that DVC has increased the transfer fee to $200 but I haven't checked it out and doubt it's accurate.

If one really wants to add family members but protect everyone's assets, buy a 25 point add on then once it's closed, go through ROFR and put it in as many family members names as they will let you, I think it's 4 max on one deed. You can then transfer the points to your owned account if you want control and to use them with your other points.

It doesn't appear that associate member will get this option but time will tell.

You may want to verify with DVC the definition they will use for "member". It may mean each name on the contract, as Dean suggests, but it may also have another meaning. Right now DVC claims something like 86,000 "members" and insist that number represents unique memberships and not the number of contracts owned or the number of names on the contracts.

The number of passes allowed could be eight per unique member. I have been told that my wife and I count as 1 unique member within the collective 86,000+ members of DVC. Even though we, together, own several contracts, we are counted as 1 of the total number of DVC members.

Before going to the expense and trouble of adding names to a deed just to get the AP discount, it might be wise to make sure that action will accomplish what you're really after.

If you get a definitive answer, please report back!

I'm sure we'll see some changes over the next few months and some unequal enforcement, per Disney standards. What has been reported is that any member can present an ID card to purchase 8 per household. Nothing suggests it's 8 per household for the entire year, only 8 per household at a time. And certainly if there are unique members in different households, DVC would not be able to deny them. Plus, nothing we've seen so far would suggest that the person presenting the card has to actually purchase themselves. I guess they could change the limit per contract or per number of points but that will simply create new wrinkles, not take away the chance for some to use it for their advantage. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Assuming this perk is actually costing DVC nothing, I doubt they'll really care much about how many passes one can amass.

I also wonder about the implementation. Lets assume one buys 8 passes through DVC either from MS or the members web site. How will they know all people actually live at the one address or for that matter, if they don't? And what about people who meet all possible angles of eligibility but need to activate the passes at different times. My guess is they'll enforce it when one buys at the parks and not when one buys from DVC directly. I do realize there would be ways to link the tickets and enforce the limitations, I'm just doubting they will.

Doc, correct me if I'm wrong. Are you saying that DVC may try to define the term member in a way to address the above issues. If so, I'd take issue with you on that. The term member is defined in the POS as ANY owner. IMO, if DVC goes through with this, they will be stuck with the implications both good and bad. The only options they'd have to reasonably have any control would be to limit passes per contract or per number of points. Otherwise EVERY owner (who has a membership card) will be able to get passes, 8 at a time. It will be interesting to see the stories that come out in the new 6 months or so.

I'm not saying anything. I'm just thinking out loud about how Disney (not you, not me) chooses to define "member" regarding the new discount program. "Member" seems to be used in one way when describing the total number of members in the DVC program (unique memberships- regardless how many names may be on the deed). Since this discount is certainly NOT mentioned in any way in the POS, I'm not sure what "member" means regarding this discount. It could mean that 8 discounted passes will be allowed per name on the deed, as you suggest- it could mean that a maximum of 8 discounted passes per unique membership will be allowed- regardless how many names are on the deed. I don't really know or personally care.

My comments were merely suggesting that if someone wants to add names to the deed just to get the discount for more people, they might want to verify what definition Disney is using regarding this program. If they want to add more names to the deed for other reasons, then it doesn't matter.

It's just a case of suggesting clarification directly from Disney (the ONLY opinion that matters) rather than from the assumptions posted on an internet site. I've seen nothing from DVC to suggest they will allow more than 8 discounted passes - but, perhaps your suggestion that this means multiples of 8 per name on the deed is correct. I'd just rather recommend that people find out the situation BEFORE spending time and $$$ adding additional names to their deed.

Fair enough Doc, we shall see. It should be fun seeing what happens the next few months.
