DVC through RCI questions

Nonsense. The only thing the $95 buys you that you wouldn't otherwise get as a guest of that resort (e.g. staying on a Member's points) is the ability to call Member Services directly concerning your reservation.

It's there because people will pay it, pure and simple.

Agree just said it was i was told not that I agreed with it ;)

If she is staying there on RCI points, do you mind me asking what the 149 is for??

Yes the 149.00 is the RCI exchange fee - and an additional 59.00 because she is not the owner of the points another RCI fee.

well, don't forget the upfront costs and annual dues for the timeshare week(s) traded into RCI. but it's true that it's still usually much less than buying DVC directly.

SO very true, they are my parents time share and they have a ton of points - it is kind of sad they do not really utilize their timeshare at all even though they travel a lot! I guess the good news is I have put myself in charge of learning more about what they have (they really do not know, and I have a long way to go). Since I have been playing around in their RCI system I have been able to book my niece 1 week OKW 1bdrm, 2 - 1 bdrms at SSR over presidents week in Feb for them and a friend and now the 2 bdrm at BWV in July. They keep saying use the points we do not want to lose them - OKAY no problem I will!:worship:

Not through RCI so far, which was the topic of discussion. They potentially can through BVTC which CI also does work with. I suspect the $95 additional fee doesn't apply to those exchanges though. To get less than 6 nights, you can only book at 4 months out or less, for 6 or more it's 7 months out for DVC members trading out to CI, I would assume the same restrictions occur in reverse but you should check for sure. It is subject to availability and DVC tries to keep a balance between outgoing and incoming for that system. If you try, let us know how it goes.

They are intrawest members who can use rci properties. When I called intrawest they said we could book three nights no problem, but not until four months out. That is what worries me. If there will be availabiliity left.

Does anyone know if i can book a week and then change it to three nights without penalty later on?

Lucky you!! Enjoy!!

Thanks for the help. Will put in an active search as soon as I can. Really hoping it works out bc rack rate prices are insane!! this would be the only way we could stay there

However, this is not through or related to RCI. This is an agreement between CI and DVC directly. As for availability, it depends on the resort, time of year and unit type; I'd say it's hit or miss. You can book 6 nights at 7 months out assuming the same rules apply to CI members booking DVC as for DVC booking CI. You could book now through RCI subject to availability. As for the rules changing or canceling your reservation, it would depend on CI rules. My assumption is it'd be a cancelation and rebooking with a new fee as a minimum and you might lose your reservation as well. Otherwise, cancelations over 30 days out would see return of the CI points, 30 days or less, the points are gone. Again, these are the rules on the DVC side, can't speak to CI directly. Also, realize that both CI and DVC control the number of exchanges on the books and the balance. It's not uncommon that they cut them off even if there is availability.

do u think I will have a hard time booking akv??
In general, you want to be as flexible as you can be about unit size, resort choice, or dates---and preferably all three. So, if you need a larger unit and/or have very specific dates in mind, it might be worth it to expand the set of resorts you are willing to consider.

we are members of RCI for a "weeks" type beach area property in So Cal & also DVC members. We have put in for exchange 2 out of our three weeks for exchange and have enough to get "into DVC". As someone mention before where, when & what size depends on availablity for DVC's. I have been keeping my exchanges on hold to wait for exactly what we need but not finding this to be so. Our plan "B" will have to be going in the summertime to WDW versus our usual winter due to more options open. It will not be as great as our own DVC points but we are anxious to try this trade & see if its worth using RCI in a different way for something we already enjoy doing!

If you mean winter 2013, it is probably too early to give up. I would not expect to see that time period deposited until very late summer 2012.

Our RCI depo has to be used by June 2013 unless we add another deposit & OUR choices are slim (trying to work with my high school son's schedule) such as school time vacations. We would usually use our DVC points for this & CAN for winter 2013 but want to make the most out of the RCI weeks exchange with somewhere we trust. I know sounds odd but have not had luck with past RCI exchange into Kauai. We definitely trust Disney property! Thus our upcoming trip to Aulani (not an exchange but w/our DVC points)! We love our beach timeshare (La Jolla CA - San Diego area) but it's such a small operation that I cannot get a guarantee of dates with our family's schedule so we decided to try RCI.
It pays off for SOME other local beach trades and definitely Vegas is you don't mind being away from the strip but was not completley satisfied with Hawaii. Since DVC has joined RCI I feel it maybe the only bright spot RCI has to offer (at least by my standards)! I don't think we will ever be trading OUT through DVC into any RCI options but nice to know it's possible. Still love my DVC even more than before!!

higaus, I suggest that you join TUG (tug2.net). Then you can look at other timeshare members reviews of places. There are excellent HAwaii timeshares in RCI and others that I would not choose. We traded into HGVC in Hawaii via RCI.
For DVC thru RCI, you really need to be flexible. If you are looking for winter 2013 (Jan/Feb), if you put in a search and list ALL DVCs, you should be able to get a match. Also, if you are willing to take a 1BR, you chances are much better. We really wanted AKV, but took OKW---I don't think AKV ever came up for the week we needed. We just did the same for this summer--our choice was SSR or OKW, no AKV. good luck. Elaine

Have you looked into Wyndham Bonnet Creek? It is right there but not WDW owned. When trading RCI, we only book Gold Crown. We have yet to be disappointed. Good luck.

If you make another deposit and then combine deposits (additional fee) it will extend the life of the current deposit for 2 years from when you do the combination.

Thank you all for your thoughtful advice which we shall take into consideration! Sometimes I feel like I need to take a break from juggling all these "vacation plans" so I can just enjoy but with 2 winter weeks / 1 summer week for La Jolla & DVC not to mentions everyone elses schedule to adjust with (not me - I'm the stay home mom) I get a bit crazy! Although I WILL MAKE this work! Thanks to all once again!!!
