Not sure if i'm asing this in the right spot, but I was wondering if anyone here has ever booked a DVC vacation through Ebay?

I see some listings and a few of the people have excellent feedback. Is it cost effective to do it that way? Has anyone rented through Ebay and has had good or bad experiences?

Thanks!

I rented from a person on ebay a couple of years ago. That was way before I discovered the Dis. The transaction went well and the guy I rented from was very professional. I don't have any regrets about it. Having said that, I've since discovered the Dis and I know that I paid more for the points than I would have had I rented here. I don't quibble too much with that, a bit but not too much. But I've also discovered here on the Dis that renting for profit is fowned upon and has a negitive affect on other members. This guy was definitely renting for profit. I don't like that aspect of it.

I solved the problem in future by becoming a DVC member myself. :goodvibes

Stenogoddess, this is off-topic, but my daughter loves your (Lauren)signature! Where did you find it?

Watch out with Ebay. I am on a chat board that has been discussing how Interval who Disney trades through is cracking down really hard on those seller. Your bid is there one day and the auction is shut down the next. There are some abusers on there that are raking people. There are some honest Joes but may I suggest this board or redweek. Check those two out.

I have rented on Ebay with no problem prior to buying DVC. Just make sure they have good feedback.

With all the focus on commercial renters these days by DVC, they could be cracking down on some of these eBay renters. Especially the ones with multiple reservations for rent.

That is exactly what is happening. They are also finding that there are several people conning people who have like 10 or 15 points to sell to sell them for cheap and then if they get 5 or 6 like that turning around and booking a room for peak season and then selling it for a premium. The game most mentioned is the "my loss is your gain" and when they were turned into interval noticed that these rooms were booked two or three days ago not months.

I was browsing on Ebay about 5 years ago and saw an auction for a 5-night stay in a Studio at OKW for $550...I'm not sure it was the greatest deal or not, but at the time I thought it was pretty good. I liked the idea of the bigger room, since we were a family of 4 at the time. The transaction went well and I've seen the seller have other similar auctions since. I believe the seller was renting a small amount of the points (it didn't take many points for a studio at OKW in November) to pay for the dues. I could be wrong, though...Anyway, if you want the seller's name, let me know. They had and still have excellent feedback.

For us, it was a nice deal, and it definitely got my husband and I interested in DVC. We bought in on our next trip! :woohoo:

That's so sweet. I actually made it in PhotoImpact and then ran it through a gif program. It wasn't the easiest thing I've ever done. But spawned from that JuliaandNick'sMom, usually over on the Creative Disigns section of this place, discovered how to make them that really put mine in the shade. I think she can sometimes be prevailed upon to make one provided she's not too busy with other requests. She does a TON of t-shirt design work for the people around here and I know sometimes she's just too backed up. I'm totally jealous of hers. :goodvibes

Thank you everyone for your great and fast responses.

I have always wanted to stay at the Beach Club, but the prices are pretty high so I thought the better way to do it was through DVC to stay at the Beach Club Villa's. I don't know if it's just my imagination, but the price for a 5 night stay at the BCV is quite good compared to a 5 night stay if I were to book it at the Beach Club.

Mstec - i'll e-mail you the E-bayer's name - they have lots of positive feedback.

Thanks again!
