DVC T &C Personal Use - Only Thread to Discuss.

How would people like it if you entered a randomized queue at 8am everyday for the particular room type that you are wanting to book? That would certainly defeat the bots, but I guess would also eliminate the "first come, first served" aspect.

Well, isn’t that what the special seasons list does..you submit a request with your dates and you are put on the list first come, first serve.

So, that could be used to stop bots for those hard to get rooms but there still has to be a way to prevent them because I would think that most owners would agree these shouldn’t be used by anyone.

It seems like if the membership as a whole routinely rented 50% of the their points every year, it would destroy Disney's Deluxe resort hotel business, no?

Maybe, but DVC can’t make rules for that reason. They have to define what changes a membership to be one for commercial reasons.

And, that’s why I don’t think they would do things as black and white as % of points but the number of reservations.

I could rent half my points in one 3 or 4 night GV reservation. And I am still only doing one rental a year.

I don’t think even DVC would attempt limiting owners that low because they do know that under FL condo laws, owners are allowed to rent.

We know they said they want to go after the large point owners renting thousands and stop them as best they can.

And, so far, they have not indicated more than that.

Does one think that BWV or AKV owners want a booking rule that only owners named on the deed can stay in the hard to get rooms?

I could live with that for BWV since that's pretty much how it works in my world, plus I've added children to my deed. I also own at BCV and NEVER have an 11 month problem. I don't own any AKV points as I've stayed there easily at 7 months and I don't chase the value rooms. I do like club level but if I really want it I can pay for it.

As for saying, I could live with it at BWV, for early December I could get garden pool, but not Resort or Boardwalk View. It's expanding now beyond just the cheap or special BW view rooms.

And, for my January/February stay at BCV today I was able to extend my February nights, because of winter I want to do 2 weeks.
Nothing was available at BWV for what I wanted. I was still 11-7 months at BCV and there was still some availability showing in studios so I booked it.

Maybe.

That would be a pretty good idea. Just like when we book moonlight magic.

Problem with that approach would be that it would cost money and I’m not seeing Disney going with a solution that cost money.
What about moving the 11 month window opening time to 9am on the computer and 8 am on the phone, one transaction per call. 🤷🏼‍♀️
Also good idea but it will eat its way into Disneys profits as it would require more staff or staff that work longer/earlier.

Pool view isn’t that much of a problem in May at boardwalk. I’ve never tried getting a December.

On that topic, if you check out the listings, some bizarre boardwalk listings showed up for 10 points. I always thought 25 was the minimum. But there are multiple listings right now below 25 points.

Think of someone who is not in DVC reading this mini-interrogation takes place every time you make or modify a reservation. I’m sure they would likely think “where do I sign up to be treated like this? Sounds great!” Not.
On a humorous note, when I called DVC Member Services today, and needed to enter my Member number, country, and last four of my social security to simply talk to someone - I asked the CM if they could add "how many mouse ears do you own" to the questions. She liked that. (P.S. along with all the other questions while on the phone, I was, of course, asked if my booking which required OTU points purchase was for Personal Use - no surprise).

Let’s take it to the average owner threshold…

Does one think that BWV or AKV owners want a booking rule that only owners named on the deed can stay in the hard to get rooms?

If they do, then they have the ability to ask for a vote of all owners to change the POS.
Wouldn’t that only apply to those that was in favor of that change?

That would severely limit the use of the membership and that’s why I assume it would take a vote - and since it only applies to those in favor (I assume) it really wouldn’t matter.

I think many years ago you could split the direct contracts as low as you more or less wanted. Maybe 10 was the lowest they would go.

Outside of that, DVC is going to have to balance all the terms of what owners are allowed to do to use their membership as intended.

My guess is that is why we haven’t seen any booking or modification rule changes because they haven’t yet found what they consider a better set of rules to deal with some of the issues that go beyond the commercial purpose clause.

In terms of owners holding as many reservations as they want just in case they decide to go?

As long as they don’t turn into rentals, that is guaranteed by the contract …even the 2008 policy allowed more than 20 if one could satisfy to the board none were rentals.
I was under the impression DVC could make some adjustments "for the benefit of the Members" without jumping thru hoops, like they did when returns after Covid caused challenges?

I've always thought there should be a 7 month, 11 month, and an 11.5 month priority - with the 11.5 month going to reservations where the Lead guest was a Deeded owner with a credit card in their name linked to the reservation. No modifications allowed (would have to cancel and rebook). Just my two cents worth.

they can make changes. However any material change required the vote from members and only those in favor would be impacted by the change.

I kinda like that idea. A little bit of an extra lead time in exchange for not being able to modify except by canceling and rebooking.

I saw all those! Odd. They look legitimate, maybe when DVC was first selling, they allowed that. Unfortunately, if you add in the Closing Costs (and allow for the 2042 Expirations) those are brutal prices to pay for points.

Nope, same arguments, different thread. But welcome back:)
A quick recap:
Damn renters
Dawn walkers
Dawn spec rentals
Damn bots

Good to hear nothing has changed here despite the new T&Cs from DVC 😅

I will say my time away from thinking about DVC daily let me reset my perspective and ultimately radicalized me on this particular issue (relative to the norms of this forum).

And now time to back away from this thread before I say more and end up getting banned 🤣

And DVC still has to follow the first come first serve rule of the contract, which can not be changed.

So, any changes to booking ability would need to take that into consideration.

I think it would certainly help if MS and online booking opened at the same time…

I’m intrigued about your radicalisation now!

IMO, an online waiting room with a random element that opens at 8 AM at the 7- and 11-month booking window can still be first-come first-served--you just treat it like everyone who is online at 8 AM requested the booking at exactly the same time and are using the random element as a tie-breaker to determine who amongst them gets to book first.

Personally, though, I'd rather see them take an interest list ahead of time that functions like a waitlist that starts fulfilling randomly at 8 AM. There's really no reason to force people to be online at 8 AM. Again, you'd be treating everyone who is on that list as requesting a reservation at exactly 8 AM on opening day, but just taking that list ahead of time. That starts to look a lot like the Special Season Preference List procedure though, except that it would only be applied to opening day (MS wouldn't maintain the list to fulfill reservations after cancellations, etc.).

Radicalized, you say? Go on then you tease, don’t leave us hanging like that. This thread needs a bit of new life anyway.
