DVC Survey about killing the printed Vacation Planner

I have enough clutter to deal with - mine goes straight in the recycle bin anyway. Would definitely opt out.

I love having the book! The point charts to have handy to flip through make vacation planning easier vs. having to look through them online. I think they should give people the option of paper or go green. I choose paper on this one!

I throw mine away every year save the $ discontinue the book. I can go online get all the info I need...

I'd opt out in a heartbeat. It seems like a big waste of money and resources, especially since I usually have my trips planned for the next year before the thing ever comes.

Same here. I dont even look at it. I walk into the house and it goes right into the recycle.

I have wondered just what people without internet do to figure out points when it comes out so late.

Add me to the opt out group - I have WAY too much paper in my house and am doing all I can to switch to electronic. I do believe, though, that those who still want the book should still have that option.

I'd think it should remain an option - actually require an opt out. However it ought to be more timely to be relevant. They have been far to late with it in the last couple of years.

IMO we should switch to a "pay as you go" membership.

If someone wants a printed planner, let them pay cash for it.

If you want to go to a mixer, Welcome Home Wednesdays or TOTWL, pay at the door.

Charging all owners for things that they don't want or events that they never attend is wrong in my book.

I really liked the ones they sent when we first joined. I don't look at the books much anymore.

I don't think members are paying for TOTWL. It may be a member exclusive venue, but dues are legally tied to operational costs at the individual resorts plus a general management fee percentage. The observation deck may be a common area expense to BLT owners, but really an observation deck should not be a big expense. The lounge itself should be leased to WDW Food Services, with a member exclusive agreement. If it fails to garner enough revenue to pay for itself, it surely will be closed, revamped to open to everyone, or used solely as a private rental venue for weddings, conventions and so forth.

Nor should we be paying for Welcome Home events and mixers. That should come out of DVD's marketing budget, not member dues.

As far as beautiful planners, they could save costs by simply sending out new loose leaf point charts. That's the way they used to do it. Early owners received a binder containing the purchase info, POS book, and the point charts. Annually we got new charts to add to the binder until they started publishing the full color planners. And really, those should be paid out of the set management fee. But I'm all for discontinuing them, they seem wasteful and not eco-friendly.

I liked the binder and yearly inserts. I still have mine and the tote bag it came with.

The ones now are simply too much year after year.

I don't use the planner much personally, but others in the family do. And it's a good tool to use when discussing DVC with a friend or family member.

If DVC wants to make it optional, I have no problem with that. But don't discontinue it entirely.

As for the cost, that's a complete and utter non-issue, IMO. We get catalogs from Eddie Bauer and Pottery Barn 3x per month which are just as elaborate. Those booklets probably cost $2-3 each to print and mail in bulk.

As DVC owners, we got into bed with a company that charges $11 for turkey legs and $5 for churros. Seems silly to micro-manage dues expenditures.

I think it would be nice if owners could opt out of getting it if they don't want one. I'm torn on getting rid of it altogether. I have used the most recent planning book quite a few times to my surprise, but I could have just as easily looked the info up online. I guess if it made our dues go down, I would be in favor of killing it.

Opting out would help costs for those of us with multiple memberships (not under same contract number).... we receive multiple copies of it and could just opt for one instead.

We agree, we want to keep a tangible copy... easier to flip around for looking at point allotment than what is required online. I suppose I could print them out, but I like the feel of the actual product instead of some lame copies.

I totally read that wrong.... thought it said "if you want a mixer" and I was suddenly thinking "I WANT a MIXER!!"..... yeah, like I need a DVC mixer!

I like many before have stated...I think it would be nice as an option. I like mine and use it often. Having said that, if folks are just recycling them soon after arrival then it becomes an added unnecessary cost.

I truly hope they don't discontinue for all of us based on feedback from just some...keeping my fingers crossed.

When is the last time Members received one of these? It seems like it has been a long time since we received it; or maybe ours got lost in the mail. :confused3 Regardless, while I do love the high quality photographs I would probably opt out. I spend way too much on-line with this stuff as it is.
