DVC studios - fewer amenities

If they want to be deluxe then spend the points for a one BDR and poof your deluxe..

just as all the rooms at the GF are deluxe, all the rooms at DVC resorts are. no "poof" about it :confused3
& btw, when there are only 2 of us going for (8-12 days at a time, 2x a year, btw), we prefer studios. we've stayed at 1 or 2 bdrms also, but that should not, & never has had anything to do with the small anemities (just as larger units receive the same towels, toilet paper, toaster, bed linens, etc). in general, it is the quantity, not quality, of "small amenties" that change with room size. using paper & styrofoam is a change in quality, & unacceptable, imho.

if they do keep this change, we will need to purchase mugs & glasses each trip, & throw them out afterwards (we fly & try to keep additional baggage weight down). i don't see how that will help the environment either :sad2:

I have stayed in studios at BCV several times in both lock off and dedicated and have ALWAYS had coffee mugs and glasses.

I have sent an e-mail of complaint to customer satisfaction. My final comment was that it seems that DVC now stands for 'Don't Value Customers'

25 years is a lot longer than we've visited, but now you can understand why I was puzzled at this:

Dear Dorothy, Thank you for contacting Member Services. The Coffee Cups in the Studios have always been Styrofoam Cups. The Drinking Glasses were made of glass and are being replaced with disposable drinking glasses. Sincerely, Larry Member Services | Online CommunicationsDisney Vacation Club

Hi simbas mom, I think we meet a few years ago (this week) while at BCV when I was with my family (at the bus stop.)

Thanks for the letter to MS and posting it. I think the changes is nuts and I hope they change back before we get there in early May. Enough people complain and they will.

My question is (if you contact MS again or talk to someone) are they making this change across the board, to any WDW resort room that isn't a one bedroom or bigger? Because if that is the case, no deluxe, mod or value room has them I will accept it. If not why in the world would a studio get less accommodations then a plan resort room?

I will miss the cups and mugs. They aren't much, but they do make it a lot more comfortable. If they don't change back, they will be hearing from me too. :headache:

I agree that this is a reaction to those press issues. When that first hit the air (even before CR got mentioned, it was Holiday Inns etc too) everyone, even on the boards, was saying that they specifically ask for disposables so this wouldn't be a problem. I wonder if there was an overwhelming response from the public and they decided it was just easier to replace them, than have special requests in so many rooms.

I am sure if there is a reaction in the opposite direction they might have to reconsider this policy. Although I figure the last thing they want is anyone setting up cameras in the DVC units and finding Mousekeeping takings shortcuts there and getting bad press.

I don't think that members are "guaranteed" anything in the contracts or POS....it is merely a list of "standard items" and like everything else in the POS it is subject to change at Disney's discretion.

Are they replacing the glasses in all the other hotels? Why just DVC studios?

Here is a photo from the AKV studio model room. Wow those Styrofoam mugs look just like the real thing!

It's interesting that we got different responses. It is not true that the coffee cups in studios have always been styrofoam cups.
Bobbi:goodvibes

Try referring to them as "coffee mugs." Cups and mugs may be different things to them. And yes, every studio I have stayed in has had mugs. AND glasses. I know, because the first thing I do is grab one to put the toothbrush in.

That was at BCV, OKW, SSR, BWV, and AKV a month ago.

I stand corrected only to state that I just spoke with member services and the only changes to the ammenities of a studio is that they no longer provide 4 oz juice glasses and dish soap.

I was further informed that wine glasses and ceramic coffee cups have never been provided in a studio vacation club room.

The may have remained in a room due to overflow from the studio being previously used as part of a lock off two bedroom, but those items are not standard ammenities of a studio room.
If you call enough people at MS I'm sure you'll get whatever answer you're looking for. And prob. someone who will tell you Nessie is swimming in Bay Lake.

This time Nyla answered my e-mail. I sure hope they are getting many messages and reconsider.

But this is something that should be expected it is a studio for gods sake!

I fail to see the actaul ablity to push this point. It is like saying why doesn't a studio have a whril pool tub.

Or a washer and dryer

How do i post a picture so i can show you want the guides say..

Interesting...when I bought 6 years ago (intending to stay exclusively in studios because I don't have a family) I was under the impression that studios were no less "deluxe" than one bedrooms. It's not like the difference between All-Star Sports and the Grand Floridian. The studios are located in the same resort as the one-bedrooms. I might have to have a chat with Member Satisfaction about downgrading me to less than deluxe because I don't need the space in a 1 bedroom.

And if they think I need a kitchen to drink stuff in the room, that's just crazy. I fully understand the studios not having plates and silverware. They don't have an oven. But they've got coffeemakers and a fridge for the drinks and the wine. And wine in paper or styrofoam doesn't taste right.

Ok--here's an evil thought--there was some t.v. show (Jericho?) that was canceled and brought back by the network because fans inundated the network with peanuts . . . .

what if we all mail a package of styrofoam cups to Member Services since apparently DVC is hurting so bad financially that they can't supply "real" glassware/mugs to studios . . . . ?

It is a good question, I would venture to say that anything that doesn't have its own dishwasher will go to disposable....but I don't have that information for sure.

My gripe is with DVC alone. I want ceramic mugs, glass glasses, and dishwasher detergent to wash them with, in studios.

Maybe Larry in Member Services has never actually been inside a studio in his life?

If ALL the resorts other than DVC 1 and 2 bedrooms and dishwasher-equipped suites go entirely disposeable then I would understand it better. Right now I feel a bit like I bought a very expensive bit of interest in the value resorts.

I'm not sure what is wrong with washing the glasses in the sink, I guess they don't trust even the guests themselves to wash them properly.

How is telling the truth EVER in poor taste or judgement?:confused3

Especially when we are being lied to:confused:

That's just ridiculous, as are the other comparisons you have made so far. Studios have never had washers/dryers or spa tubs, whereas studios have always had coffee mugs and drinking glasses (whether or not your limited experience with DVC allows you to believe that). Comparing apples to oranges serves no purpose. Are you aware of what a deluxe resort hotel room is? It's very similar to a studio, and is often just one room. Stating we have to stay in a 1BR to get a deluxe resort experience is dead wrong.

I have guides dating all the way back to 1994, so please don't feel you need to post it for my sake. I'm not sure how long you have been a member, but I have been one since '94, so I do have a little experience with DVC.
