DVC Studio Bashing

I just love to hear everyone complain about the DVC studios.
I must say I don't like the studio at OKW. Sure it is a little bigger but I don't like the layout or the 2 queen beds. I much rather stay at BWV, WLV, or BCV studios.
Steve....
I didn't see anyone "bashing" the studios, but rather giving their opinions or preferences. Just as even you, here, state that you "don't like the OKW studio", for whatever reason, that is your preference. Is this bashing of OKW ? I'm not going to take it that way. Some have recently stated that OKW is more like a hotel in the way the room is set up, yet, all the other DVC resorts besides OKW are set up more like a hotel overall and this is what I've read on these boards is preferrred by most? So I don't quite get it, but that's ok. I'm just taking this all with a grain of salt because I don't want my BP to get up there again ;)
Overall, ALL the DVC studios and villas are top-notch. I enjoy reading everyone's pros and cons, including yours ::yes::

People are referring to the STUDIO at OKW as being set up like a hotel room, which it is. It is a regular hotel room with a kitchenette in the hallway leading to the bathroom.
All the other WDW DVC studios are set up like a true studio with a sleeping area (queen size bed) a lr/dining area with sofa, table&chairs, tv, etc, a kitchenette which is it's own seperate and pretty open and spacious place and of course the sink area and the tub/toilet area. For a party of 1 or 2 people that do not want or need an extra bed this set up is really staying in your own studio apt vs a hotel room with a kitchenette added to a hallway. If one was to actually measure the sink and the tub toilet area at BCV, etc., the total size dimensions are very similiar to the total size of an OKW studio bathroom that has everything in one room. It is merely a difference in how the sink, etc is broken up into two seperate spaces. Many people prefer this set up because then 2 people can get ready at the same time: one in the shower another at the sinks shaving, putting on make up etc.

Quite frankly, I don't care how it is set up. What works for one person, might not work for another. Some prefer 2 queen beds and a larger bathroom....while others like being able to keep the fold-out couch closed during the day for more room. I felt OKW was roomier even without being able to fold up the one bed---but that's just me. I don't expect everyone to agree with this. I even stated, if it were just my dh and I, I'd be ok with the "true" studios more. But with kids---we like the larger room and bathroom---just our personal preference.
Being that ALL the DVC studios have the kitchenette, I consider them ALL to be one-step above a regular hotel room. This is just my opinion obviously and I'm sure there are those that agree with it and those that don't. That's fine with me----these boards are for all sorts of opinions.

Whoa...........don't blow this whole thing way out of proportion, I was only saying why some people feel an OKW studio is more like a hotel room than a true studio, while the other WDW DVC studios are true studios.

Can't See What's To Bash...

We are hoping for our 1st visit to SSR&S next August, me DW and DD (6), and a studio for us means a much longer stay than a 1BR.

Being in the same room for a couple of weeks has always been a part of our holidays, and it feels like I am more together with the family for the time I am away, in the best possible place to be at!

Studios and their small points, I'll take them any day!!!

If we go just DH and I, then it's a sure thing that we'll stay Studio. If we have guests or if we eventually have kids, we'll stay larger. We really want to maximize our points -- especially if we use them to cruise, also.

For us, I'm loving the flexibility of DVC. Back when we purchased our 250 points in 1999 we lived in a very small rental house. We bought that many points thinking that we would always want to spend at least one week at BWV in a one bedroom. Our little house had a very small bathroom and so we viewed that one bedroom as a big luxury with the tub. We also thought it would be nice to have the kitchen. During that time we loved staying in the one bedroom villa.

Well, then about a year later we bought our first home. Well, it's about five times the size of that small rental and has a nice master bath with a big jacuzzi tub. We use it all the time here, and so it's not such a big deal to me any longer when I go on vacation.

The bigger kitchen in the one bedroom was useless for us. We do usually grab breakfast in our studio, but it's only a bagel or muffin and coffee. So the smaller studio frig, the coffee maker and the toaster are all we need.

We don't use the extra points to stretch our time at WDW or take more trips. And honestly, a week a year at WDW is enough for both of us.

The great surprise for us has been that we have been able to rent the 155-165 points a year that we have left over with *no* difficulty. We rent them to family, friends and once to another DVC member and every transaction has been great. Everybody always walks away happy. With the price we get per point we have enough to cover our dues for the year plus two 5 day park hoppers. We do the parks for five days and then take the other two to relax.

It's worked out great. It's almost too good to be true. And so by staying in studios, we're able to vacation for a week at a WDW deluxe resort for a total of 43 years on a total investment of $16,250. Factoring in dues, original investment and extra money we have left over for park hoppers, we are just about at the break even point. So I'm certainly not going to knock the studios, that's for sure ;o).

DeeP....I'm not. I appreciate your analysis on studio vs true studio. I was just giving my opinions/comments in my posts. I think the whole thing got too technical anyway---it usually does with topics involving the DVC resorts. I still prefer the actual larger bathroom---this is just my personal preference. I can appreciate, as I presviously stated, that 1 or 2 people in a party would do better with the couch because they really don't need that extra bed. And, I still say ANY DVC room is a step above ANY regular hotel room in a heartbeat.
I'm fine with this.....I only made the "hotel" comment because most people prefer the hotel-like atmosphere of BWV, BCV and VWL over the condo-feeling of OKW (I'm not necessarily including myself in this statement), yet, ironically, it is OKW that has the hotel-feel studio rooms.....that's all. Sorry if you misread my tone DeeP:D
