Looking for advice

I'm a new DVC owner at the VGF. I received my membership number about 2 weeks ago. I was able to book a 1bdr standard view at VGF for December 29 to January 2nd. I'm on a waiting list for January 3 to January 6 and leaving January 7.

Any chance of getting that room for January 3 to January 6?

I would be happy to have a split stay at either Boardwalk or Beach Club but I have to wait for the 7 months window. Do you think there will be availability at that time for Boardwalk or Beach Club?

Even if I would love to be there for New Year's Eve, I'm debating if I should just pick an other week to go to Disney.

Issue is that those dates are Marathon. So while the waitlist MIGHT come through, it's a rough couple days for the waitlist, KWIM?

See above comment. I think the odds on those resorts having a 7-month availability when you log in that morning are slim, slim, slim. Marathon is rough on availability.

Or, have a backup plan for a split stay for January 3-6 that either involves (maybe) booking a lower-demand resort (if available) January 3-6; waitlisting a lower demand, larger resort for January 3-6 as a split stay (Saratoga, OKW - both are much larger than BCV/BWV/VGF, meaning somewhat greater odds with a waitlist), or booking non-DVC for those 3 nights as a backup/split stay in the event your waitlist never comes through.

Agree with the above. New Year's Eve is reportedly the single hardest night of the year to book. If you want to keep those dates, I wouldn't risk letting go of what you have now. Nor would I hold out hope of finding many options at 7 months.

Then the Marathon will drive demand for the dates you're missing. There are only about 30 Standard View 1Bs at Grand Floridian. If none of the people currently booked in those rooms cancels, you won't get a room. And if you're 2nd or 3rd on the waitlist for some of those dates, it could require multiple cancellations.

For this year I was at BLT until December 31, then at 7 months we did get OKW studio from December 31- Jan 5. It was what I wanted, a laid back vacation after NYE. We had seen the NYE MK fireworks from TTOTW, which was why we had the BLT stay.

I don't think it'll be impossible to get something at 7 months for those dates. I just think BWV and BCV are pretty unlikely. Marathon is what it is.

Were you able to book at 7 months from the 1st day of your stay at BLT or from 7 months from your 1st day at OKW?

You'll need to be right on top of it at seven months out.

And if you do get VGF for those last nights, be aware that you will have a hard time leaving the resort early in the morning of Jan 7 because of the marathon. Once all the runners get past the GF and on the way to AK, it won't be as hard.
