DVC Speculation. Let's Play Oddball!

Not long after the first bit of earth was turned at a site labeled “Disney Vacation Club” just off of Community Drive, the speculation began. Where will the next DVC be? As DVC expanded, and resorts rose up at Hilton Head, Boardwalk, Vero Beach, Beach Club, Wilderness Lodge and Saratoga Springs, slowly the rumor grew. They’re going to locate a DVC on the monorail, probably at the Contemporary.

Then, lo and behold, the rumor was confirmed!?
October 2005, from another site:
“There will be another location of the Disney Vacation Club near the north garden wing of the Contemporary Resort! DVC is going in at the current location of the tennis center, replacing it.
I would bet that the tennis center will still be nearby, but in a smaller form -- and I wouldn't be surprised if the beach along Bay Lake is expanded to the north of the Contemporary Resort's north garden wing, for the use of the DVC Guests.”

Reinforced by a follow-up post at the same site:
“The DVC Reps won't confirm it, but a high-ranking official with Disney spilled the beans, so there ya go! “


Then, in the same month, further corroboration from sowewhere else in cyberspace:
“Contemporary A Changing

More details are emerging on the rumored major overhaul of the entire Contemporary resort. According to resort Cast Members the next stage of the rehab following the current South Wing and Tower room renovations will be the construction of Disney Vacation Club units and a number of Dining changes.
Rumors now hold that the North Garden wind and the south portion of the Tennis Center will be the future site of a new five story complex to house Disney Vacation Club villas and studios. The Tennis Center is rumored to still exist post this addition, but only in a smaller form.
It is still rumored that The Concourse Steakhouse and the Food & Fun Center will trade places. It is now further being rumored that as a result of this change the steakhouse will receive a new name and a new theme, like wise the Food & Fun Center will receive new nomenclature and themeing, which at this point is believed to tie into the near by Chef Mickey. Along with these changes it is rumored that the entire Grand Concourse level will be receiving a major refurbishment although Mary Bair murals are rumored to be preserved.
Other changes are now rumored for the lower levels of the hotel as well. The current Contemporary Grounds coffee shop is rumored to be replaced by a new Children’s area. It is rumored that a new coffee shop will be placed near the entrance to the convention center. The lobby is also rumored to receive some major changes, it is rumored that the lobby will be completely redesigned to give the area a similar feel to the newly renovated rooms.”

Whoa! Pretty detailed!


Things remained fairly quiet, until last week, when we found that:
DVC staff had been informed of the location of DVC-next!
Folks would be 2% excited and 98% surprised!
Then a clue: the Resort would be C R V.
Almost immediatley we were told this meant Commercial Renters Villas.
Uh-huh.

C R V Hmmmm...
Contemporary Resort Villas?
Californian Resort Villas?
Carribean Resort Villas?
Coronado Resort Villas?
Cheyenne Resort Villas? (Ooh! Say La Vee!)
Campground Resort Villas?
Castaway Resort Villas?
Cruise Line Resort Villas?
(I think there’s a connection between those last two)


Then, on some other board, we read that someone’s friend let slip that the next DVC would be at AKL. How did this person know? They had been offered a postion at the new DVC, (Aha! Staff, an Insider!). Where? At the new Community Hall. (Hmm..., another C word. Fascinating.)


Mystically, a post appeared on these very boards, yes, right here in River City! DVC-next would be the top two floors ofAKL! No source on this one. No “My friend who works for DVC said...”. Probably a diversion. The top floor at AKl is Concierge, and that starts with a C, which rhymes with P, which stands for new Pool.


Suddenly, on that other board, info from an insider! A park regular who works for a some guidebook. And of course the guidebook folks know the staff at DVC (AHA!). DVC-next will be at the Contemporary, demolition starts October 1st. (October again). The North Wing will vanish, and in it’s place will rise a multi-story ediface in the shape of a....wait for it....a C!!!

Finally, last night on that other board, we journeyed deeper into the Mysteries of DVC. Someone took the DVC Tour, and at the end, asked the guide, “Where’s DVC-next?” The reply? “Animal Kindom Lodge.” With plans to build three new DVC’s in the near future!
Hmm..., no C connection. Definetly a rumor. The DVC Guide is probably a former busdriver.


There you have it. That’s where we stand. And it’s all BALONEY!!!!

Here’s the real scoop;
I had dinner with Uncle Bob and Aunt Willow last night, and on October 1, 2006 the following announcement will be made:

“Walt Disney World is a tribute to the lives and philosophies of Beancounters the world over. In that spirit, today, Walt Disney World becomes Disney Vacation Club America....”

That’s right, you wanna stay there? POINTS, baby! Wanna see Mickey? POINTS! Wanna ride Space mountain? POINTS! 4 today, higher on Saturday.

Update: Design concepts for CR DVC posted oin the DVC Ops board. This one may just be a GREENLIGHT!!!
