I am wondering what you think. I was thinking of buying a small contract thorough resale for about 100 points. Then when a new DVC comes along that I really like then buy into it with developer points? I am just thinking this would be more cost effective. I would also be able to completely pay if off in half the time. I am not that crazy about SS and AKV. I stayed at the AK once before and was not too impressed and I don't really like where SS is located. I know, I know, I am begin way to picky. But everyone on this forum suggests buy where you want to stay. I love the Boardwalk!! The only reason I would not buy a larger contract there is money now and the fact the new DVC are going longer years. I still have years of Magic left in me. What do you think? Is my reasoning flawed and if so why??:confused3

Just remember (I'll catch heat for it, but I'll still say it), you only need to buy where you are planning on staying if you will likely plan your stays more than 7 months out...

I truly enjoy SSR, but will stay at many different resorts over the (upcoming) years. However, I will find it unlikely to plan anything more than 7 months out. 2-3 months in advance, perhaps 6 months in advance at most. It just requires flexibility.

But starting with a smaller contract and paying it off quickly is a great financial decision! Why try and bite off more than you can chew... or have to take a full 10 years to pay off a timeshare and pay back almost double what you borrowed...

Well, I am a teacher and our family vacations are planned well in advance. I only get certain times off a year. I usually plan 7+ out. The times I have availabe to go are busy times, Like Christmas. I need the 7+ out for that don't I?

BWV is one of the places it's more important to buy to stay there. If you don't care about BW view or SV, it may not matter but otherwise it does. It sounds like you'd be better off buying BWV. If you really want more points, you may be better off saving a while longer then buying something more akin to your needs to start with. Or you could wait, save and see if DVC comes out with something you like better. Remember the discounts for add ons usually start at between 100 to 120 points for an add on, otherwise you'll likely pay full retail with no other discounts or specials. SSR does have a special I think right now at 50 pts but that is the only exception I recall and speaks to the need to prop up the sales there in the wake of AKV coming on board.
