DVC sign up time limit

After lurking on this board for months and picking up some great advice and tips ( thanks everyone ) I now have an urgent request for advice.

During our third Disney trip in five years last week we investigated the DVC and went for the tour of SSR. We were told of the $101 per point price with $10 discount

I was really impressed and think I will join but would like some time to crunch the figures and let the Disney euphoria to wear off a bit in order to make a sensible decision ( and read the disboard forums).

Heres the problem.... I live in the United Kingdom. Our 'Guide/agent' at our meeting stated at the end of the talk ( which was great, no hard sell at all)
that we had to let him know if we we were interested in joining within 3 days of returning to the UK.

Does anyone know if this is correct or a disguised 'hard sell' technique to make us sign quickly.

Does being resident in the UK affect this ? If I ring up in a couple of weeks to purchase surely Disney are not going to turn me away?

I cannot see any info on any other threads which describe this restriction.

Many thanks in advance

DD

PS my 3 days are up on Saturday

The three day thing has to be something tied to the package offering changing in Sept. We ourselves and most posts I have read on the boards here have expressed no pressure whatsoever including timeframes. That is why I am thinking it must be related to a change in the package offered. In either way I would not fret over over it whatsoever. We just sold our SSR contract for 81/ pt. There are PLENTY of other offers out there and do not in any way feel rushed to make a decision on any contract. Have you checked out the resales page?

Just wanted to make you aware that the benefits do not change at all whether you buy resale or from Disney. There is a closing cost difference however.

What are the changes that are suppose to happen in September?

I am not aware of any changes, just trying to say that there must be a reason why the three day thing, because this is not what I have seen to be normal behaviour with buying into DVC. (Occasionally they change the promotional package was all I was inferring) I am not aware of any changes

It seems to me that I remember something about the incentives expiring after 3 days. It's not that they will deny you the ability to purchase but you will no longer get the $10 off per point incentive. I think I remember someone posting that this happened to them, I'll look for it and get back to you.

It may have to do with incentives. We were offered a free stay at a Disney Resort as an incentive when we toured in 2002. We had a stated time, I don't remember how long, to get the incentive. We called a few weeks later, and of course we could buy in, but the incentive was gone. It worked out for the best, as we decided to buy resale, and got VWL, which is the resort we really wanted anyway.

When we toured in 2004 we were told the incentive price was good up to three days after our tour. We could still purchase after that but the price discount would not be honored after that.

I couldn't find that old post, but these 2 ^ seem to confirm. Better get cracking if you want that discount.

I have heard from other people that Disney is usually pretty strict on the 3 day rule. If you take the tour you have 3 days to make a decision to get the reduced price. If you did not take the tour but just called up to get the DVD or took a tour by yourself with out Disney knowing then there is no time limit. If you do a serach you may find some posts since this topic has been on these boards before.

Same here when I bought in 03.
The $10 discount incentive was only good for 3 days. You can still purchase but loose the discount.

It was that way in 1994 when we first took the tour too. You had to sign up in 3 days to get the incentive price. We waited 3 YEARS! LOL. Didn't get the incentive price, but we were able to pay cash instead of finance.

Is the $10 per point the same as the $10 per point if you finance? That was the offer we received in the mail when we ordered the book in July. We decided to go with a re-sale instead and got SSR for $82 Per Point

I agree with what everyone else has said. We bought in May '06 and did have a time limit, but that was for our incentives. I think ours was 5 days, but I think that is because we bought in CA vs. FL. I am pretty sure it was 5 days instead of 3, but I would have to check out the paper work to be sure.

There were no high pressure sales at all, unlike some other time share presentations we had been to, which is another reason we bought with Disney.

Thanks for all your answers.....

I think I will relax and buy when I'm comfortable with the decision. Resale looks like a good option.

Thanks again

DD

I have to be perfectly honest...the time frame for the incentives is not as firm as the selling guides may want for you to believe at the time you are doing your tours/sales discussions.

I toured in October 2005 and notified my guide within three days that I did not wish to purchase at that time due to some family emergencies that awaited me when I arrived home (three different family members were in the hospital for three different medical conditions).

I then called him up in the end of March, told him I was then ready to purchase, and I got the exact same deal that I would have if I had purchased last October, right down to the same $$ off per point and all of the 2005 points.

I called at the end of the month...don't know if it was because I called six months after my tour, if sales were low in general at SSR (this is also when they were offering the member add-on incentives), or if my guide had not met his "goals" for the month.

My advice-if you are unsure of your purchase, call your guide within the three day time frame and politely explain that it is not for you at the moment but you are not ruling out purchasing in the future. Maybe that was what made the difference in my situation :confused3

I am glad I came across this thread! I have been talking with a DVC rep for several months now and each time I call, I reconfirm the incentives. Of course he tells me he "doesn't know how long this will be offered". So, the clock starts ticking once you actually TAKE the tour in person? I am probably better off just "strolling" around SSR myself to decide? That changes the whole game...There are no "hard sells"--just if you want to save money--you have three days or else...??? Sounds like that is the hard sell. This can't be--wouldn't everyone buy resale if there were no incentives through Disney?? :confused3

You are correct - the "incentive ticking clock" does not apply to phone inquiries. It starts when you take the tour in person on site.

And the guide was truthful - the incentives can and have changed over the years. We have no info right now re how long the current incentives will be around. There have been (short) periods of time without any incentives and some incentives have been better than others.

Best wishes -
