DVC rooms too plain?

[QUOTE I'm just pointing out that the deluxe resort hotels room are much nicer than the DVC Villas as far as decor.[/QUOTE]

I agree with you about the decor and I agree with many other posts about the cost of making DVC look as fancy as some of the hotel rooms of the resorts that are attached to them, like BWV.

Whenever someone comments on DVC with a bit of negativity, you will hear a lot of defensivness come out. I own at SSR, and would defend DVC too. But I agree with your statement.

I want 1000 thread count sheets and down comforters!..lol..
Many years ago we bought our first timeshare with the belief that we would never be able to own a vacation home. Buying a "piece" of our dream was better than no dream at all and so we entered timeshare ownership. Over time, we integrated certain features of the timeshare condos into our own condo including color/paint choices, drapery ideas and upgraded bedding. About five years ago we made the leap from timeshare to our very own vacation home. Great bedding? You betcha! :cloud9:

As for DVC, I second the idea of using an Owner's Locker to keep your special sheet sets. Live it up and enjoy!

I don't think anyone became defensive, per say, it's just that we disagree.

Anytime you post on a public forum you will have those that agree and those that don't.

I think DVC has to stike a happy medium between wants and cost. I think they do a good job.

I agree that Owner's Locker is the best solution. :thumbsup2

two thoughts here. Yes I agree as I enjoy the fluff. I also do not think We are paying chump change for DVC membership my payments and dues far exceed the cost of a moderate or value so I would want Deluxe as it can get if that is what we are being sold on or told. DVC is not as a deluxe room just a deluxe location. If comparing this to a deluxe and telling of a bargain you have to compare apples to apples. Of course I realize you wouldnt getthe so called deal if you were truley getting Deluxe accomodations as everything cost.

The Disney website calls the DVC villas, "Deluxe Villas."

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I find the SSR villas to be as nice as any Disney Deluxe resort and I have stayed in all of them, including suites.

The only resort with sheets of a higher count is the Grand Floridian and as Chuck said that comes with a big price.

Comforters or bedspreads they come off as soon as we get there, so what they use it not important to me.

Bay Lake Towers got the newer bedding with the comforter/duvet cover. So it is possible eventually all DVC will go to that.

Most 5 star hotels offer 800 thread count, 1000 count would be reserved for the Presidental suite, which I think is somewhat unrealistic for a timeshare.[/Q

I did not intend for my thread to be about sheets or comforters. I said that mainly joking, but bedspreads are ugly and gross. I was just making a point that I feel the DVC Villas could be a little nicer. I do enjoy having a kitchen, washer and dryer, ect, but I guess everyone has their own preference. I like the "hotel" feel. That's why BLT and BWV are my fav DVC resorts. I would not want to stay a VWL because I don't like the rustic theme and for some people it's there favorite resort. I ave hno desire to stay at SSR either because the size reminds me of a college campus. And I don't think that asking for some "fluff" during my vacation is really a bad thing.

What's not deluxe anyway?
Deluxe = King bed....got that.
Deluxe = full kitchen...got that.
Deluxe = in room Jacuzzi...got that
Deluxe = living room...got that.
Deluxe = private laundry facilities...got that.
Deluxe = stand alone shower + separate tub...got that.

As far as I can tell, all of those things make DVC villas MORE deluxe than the regular resorts. Add to that the extra sq. footage, and it's a 'home' run for DVC!

Sure, you can get those things in some of the suites at the "deluxe" resorts, but most rooms would be more akin to a DVC studio.

Actually, Diane, the GF doesn't have full kitchens and private laundry facilities in the rooms. Plus you have to get the most expensive rooms to get a jacuzzi tub at the GF. I enjoyed my stay at the GF, but I like my DVC villas better. At the GF, all I got was two queen beds (like an OKW studio, but not as nice). The bedspreads there were Alice in Wonderland themed, not stark duvets.

So I'm not quite sure what the difference would be except the DVC resorts have more.

Well, we just stayed at the YC in May and the room was no nicer in decor than the 1-bedroom at we stayed in at BCV the year before.

It's mainly just a difference of opinion, I think most of us find the DVC villas especially one and two bedrooms as nice as any Disney Deluxe resort.

As nice as any Deluxe room in the US, no of course not.

We stayed at SSR this summer and at the Grand Floridian. Other than the sheets we felt our SSR two bedroom was much more luxurious than the theme park room we had at the GF.

For one thing the bathroom at the GF was so small the door hit the toliet every time you opened it into the bathroom.

As to your opinion of SSR that is personal preference too. Many of the top deluxe resorts in the world especially in Hawaii are large and spread out. Our favorite the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa is on 50 acres and over 600 rooms.

The one thing I do remember that they had in the YC rooms and in the deluxe AKL room that we stayed in that we don't get in a DVC room is a magnifying mirror. I wish the DVC rooms had those.

When we toured OKW in 1992 and became members, it was the most beautiful resort with the most beautiful units we had ever seen. We have stayed at OKW many times and the units have become increasingly tired and worn over the years. However, it is still our favorite DVC resort due to the sentimental value and the memories. We are going to OKW in a few weeks, and hope to get a refurbished unit.

The point of DVC is for it to make it feel like your home away from home and that is what they do.

I have better sheets and down comforters on my beds. Better quality appliances, too. ;)

I agree the DVC rooms are not "up to snuff" with a good quality hotel. But I think they are still - for what my buy in cost was - a good VALUE. And compared to other timeshares I've been in, they are very nice.

I'll also agree that DVC Deluxe hotels are only Deluxe in the minds of the Disney marketing division. They are rather pricey hotels for a rather modest quality - the only value is in themeing and being on site.

As new DVC properties are being built it seems the units are becoming a bit more intereasting ex. SSR, AKV, VGC, BLT, & Aulani. And now with the refurbed BWV & OKW. I think we are of to a good start IMHO:goodvibes

I agree DVC is a great value. This is why we purchased. I'm just hoping with the next resort or rehab DVC will do less "Grandma's House" Decor. But I love my DVC membership and will enjoy our WDW vacations..ugly bedspreads and all. ;)

My issue with the newer resorts is that they are reducing the closet space to the point where there is barely room to hang up your clothes let alone store your empty suitcases out of sight. In Kidani for example the master closet contains a pedestal safe and the high chair. There is no way to hang up anything long (like a pair of slacks) unless you stash the high chair somewhere else, like in the 2nd bathroom for example where you will have to work around it during your entire stay. I do like the pedestal safe but wish they had made the entryway closet large enough to put the high chair next to the washer/dryer. It does take away from the "deluxe" experience for me when the first thing I have to do when we get into our room is unload a sticky high chair from the master closet so that I can unpack.

That's what Diane WAS saying - the Deluxe Villas are deluxe because they have all those things. She wasn't listing the things about a regular Deluxe, but a Villa.

I certainly won't tell you that you are wrong. We all have our own expectations and preferences.

But I think many of the replies here do illustrate how many of us have different opinions on how money should be spent. I wouldn't dismiss conflicing comments as being defensive or protective toward Disney. It's merely other owners saying "sorry, but I don't want MY money spent on better sheets and comforters."

If things are important to you, share those comments with DVC. They WILL take member feedback into account.

But some fiscal responsibility is still necessary. Yes dues continue to go up. That's mostly because employee wages increase, EE benefits cost more, fuel for buses, property taxes...there are many inflationary costs in running a hotel/timeshare. Spending more money on services and amenities would only raise dues further.

you and my husband too and a hand towel ring in the master bathroom.

Exactly. I was listing what DVC villas had that Deluxe hotels did not!
