DVC Room Upgrades?

We just got back from a week at SSR. Most of the people that I talked to at the resort were non DVC Members on the "Free" dining plan. They had been upgraded to SSR from other resorts. A couple of them were also upgraded to larger rooms at check-in.

Any DVC Members ever get upgraded at check-in? Looks like this trip would have been a better value through CRO.

No members do not get upgraded unless there is a maintance or housekeeping problem with the room and they have to move you to something else.

They will try first to move you to the same room size but sometimes that simply is not possible and they will move the guest into a larger unit, but very rarely does this happen.

As to the recent upgrades; that was a cash reservation situation, entirely different inventory from booking with points and yes just as any Disney resort where you pay for cash they have the option to upgrade.

As to being a better value from CRO, there is absolutely no way to know if you had booked a value that you would have been upgraded. Your chances of wining the lottery are probably as good.

That makes sense. We bought $20 in Florida Lotto tickets while we were there and won nothing.

Now of course if you book a DVC resort on cash your chances of being upgraded are as good as anyone else.

For the difference Disney charges over DVC they can afford to upgrade you. To me it isn't an upgrade it is what you paid for in the first place. The free dinning is a good deal.
