Special Room Request Procedure
As a reminder, the established procedure and appropriate time for making special room requests is when you make your reservation with Member Services. If you have any additional requests, or changes to your original request, call Member Services directly. Please do not call or fax the resort where you'll be staying. To be fair to all Members, the only information we use when trying to honor special room requests is that which comes from Member Services.

With so many Members having special requests, it's important that everyone follow this established procedure. As you can imagine, the number of Members asking for particular rooms, views, floors and buildings makes it impossible to honor all of the requests. We do our best to honor your requests, but please understand that we cannot guarantee them.

the above was on the dvcmember site......

is this a new policy or just an old one that was never implemented properly??

This has been on the member site for some time and I believe also in an issue of Vacation Magic or the Member Clubhouse. My guess is 6 months to a year.

i don't know when it became a written policy, but I think it was one of those things that was implied that maybe wasn't in writing until it was no longer manageable.
I looked in my 1997 guidebook; the only reference to Special Requests is in the part after making reservations, where it says your special requests will be noted on your confirmation letter sent after making the reservation. And then it mentions that requests are not guaranteed.
In the 2001-2002 guidebook, one of the FAQs is
Can I make requests via fax and email?
Yes, you can. You can use the Member Services fax and email to :
- Bank Vacation Points
- Change the number of guest in your party
- Request a grocery order form for Disney Vacation Club Resorts or, go to dvcmember.com "Plan your Getaway" and print out a faxable form.
- Change your address or phone number
The only other reference I could find regarding special requests in the 2001-2 Guidebook was a question on page 28, where it said:
If you have special requirements during your stay -such as specific medical needs, wheelchair access, cribs, high chairs, etc., -please let us know when you make your reservations. We'll do our best to accommodate you
