I think I've done my share of sleuthing for the moment, I now know more than I ever really wanted to about them. Heck, this is nothing, anyway - you should see the notes I take when we sit down and play "Haunted Mansion Clue"!

On the OC Comptroller site, I ended up with a Don Wechsler who also seems to work for Disney. There was some sort of permit or something for work on the Main Street Train Station.

I think the W's or B's bought contracts in everyone's name in the family to bypass the point limit. I have 4 kids, 2 have my ex-hubby's last name. I could build up a ton of points!! But I will not. I will only buy enough for me to personally stay at WDW for 11 months a year....I promise.

And with the Doc.....maybe he is "making over" the W's to hide them from DVCgate!!

And to open up a whole new can of worms: I wonder if the taxes on this get paid. Living in NY, they are <insert nasty word here> about taxes. They even have a place on the NY state tax form for you to pay sales tax for stuff you BOUGHT on Ebay. Eliot Spitzer would be all over this.

I think Disney left a lot of it open to interpretation. The ambiguity gives them greater leverage as far as their options imo.

Actually I think it's quite the contrary. As a rule, any ambiguity is decided in favor of the customer/member/little person in these type of issues. That's one of the reasons I feel DVC will have to have a fool proof definition to go forward on this clause. It remains to be seen if they're serious on actually cleaning this up or floating a trial balloon. I suspect the latter. Of course they actually had total control with ROFR, they could have bought back any and all contracts as they came through originally.

I think I saw in another thread that someone actually talked to a Disney lawyer and that the lawyer said Disney doesn't care if you rent your own points, but they were looking for more points than you own being in your account. If some one owns 18,000 points and they rent out 18,000 points, it seems to me then, that Disney really doesn't care. If someone owns 18,000 points and have more than that, then the points were transferred in and that's what Disney is against at least for now. Anyone having more points than they own.

According to Squaretrade, proud-to-offer is Bonnie McClelland.

She's small fry compared to the Welschers... only two contracts. 170 pts at Boardwalk and 250 pts at an unspecified resort (I assume that all such documents are actually referring to Old Key West, from back when it was the only DVC resort.) She lives in Ontario, Canada. I'm guessing she used all her OKW points to rent the three weeks that are on eBay now, and probably does the same with Boardwalk. It looks like she goes a while between auctions. Although it does seem like she may have more up for auction than those point totals should allow... but it's hard to say for sure, maybe she needed extra cash and borrowed some of next year's points?

Either way, I can't get TOO upset about that, after what else we've seen in this thread...

Thats at least 13 sold out dates by one person no wonder owners can't get what they want, how did Disney let this happen they are letting DVC owners down bigtime they should be accountable for this they make rules and then dont follow them through, I feel sorry for people who attempt to make ressies at the smaller resorts only to find that someone has booked up all the rooms purely to make a profit, this is against what is in the contracts we all signed if Disney does'nt stop this then I will sell my point s

Interesting. There is one person with 10 different rentals on Redweek (though I don't know if she is a DISer). I checked the OC site and she has 9 contracts (though this is peanuts compared to the others we have read about on this thread). Though it's pretty obvious this is her business too.

Wow, I am more naive than I thought. I can't believe people actually do this. And we, the honest ones, struggle to get the weeks we really want.

I think I have read the entire thread and here is my thoughts and many probably will disagree but that is life.

1. I have nothing against renters. They just want to enjoy Disney like they rest of us. If they can rent their points for $5 per point, more power to them, they got a great deal IMHO.

2. I don't think it is wrong to rents points out that you won't be able to use for whatever reason no matter if it is a broken toenail, just don't feel like going to WDW, or whatever.

2. I do think it is wrong to intentionally reserve a prime week that you know you as an owner will not use, and only reserve it for the sole reason of making money on it no matter if it is to pay for your dues, pay for college, whatever. When you do this you are possibly if not more then likely screwing over a fellow DVCer who could have used this time with their own points. To me it makes no difference if the person is a 100 point contract owner or a 100,000 point contract owner. This is not right. Twist it how or anyway you want, this is not what DVC was designed to do.

THIS IS MHO from a mere 200 Point Owner. YMMV.

I'm with you!!! I just gave this website to a woman I work with so that she might be able to find a rental opportunity. I have no issue with people who are NOT using it as a profit making enterprise. I don't have any problem with a member who for whatever reason can't use the points for that year and rent them out, and from what I understand, Disney doesn't either. From everything I've read, they are trying to cut down on exactly what most of us would like to see stopped.

The reason I bring this up is because if everyone is done this way, then the W families totals would also be multiplied by 4, still alot of points, but nothing like what we think. Anyone else care to check theirs and see if it matches mine.

I think most contracts will have multiple entries. Like you we have two entries. The dead and the notarized copy of the ROFR document. If you financed through Disney there is likely another entry. A list of the doc types is available here, http://officialrecords.occompt.com/wb_or1/doctype.asp.

The D is the deed filing. The NOT is the Disney notice of ROFR waiver being filed.
