We have tried for months to use our DVC points for BCV or BWV the week before Thanksgiving. MS has told us no rooms available. DH went on line to the main Disney website and was able to book our exact days... Can I call member services to let them know??? I am assuming that a certain number are rooms are able to be sold for cash... It has been harder and harder for us to get reservations last couple of years.. Even at home resort in correct window... Hoping maybe I can at least get a discount.. Any help is appreciated...

What is there to let MS know? I'm confused. Disney Reservations has rooms, DVC has rooms. Two separate groups of rooms.

You can't get a discount through Member Services on a room you booked through Disney. Only if you booked it through Member Services and a discount is available through them.

Or use a Disney Travel Co. promotion if one is available for your dates/resort.

Cash and Points are two separate inventories. Cash rooms become available in one of several ways:
1. DVD (The Developer) retains ownership of a small portion of points at each resort and can convert those to cash rooms if they so chose.
2. When members use their points outside of the DVC system for a Disney Collection, Adventurer Collection or Concierge Collection Reservation, those points are converted to cash rooms to cover the cash reimbursement of the reservation. These reservations CAN NOT be pulled back for points reservations as they already are reserved on points.
3. Unreserved rooms at 60 days from arrival are turned over for cash. These can be pulled back subject to CRO approval for points reservations.

Member Services won't be able to help you at all. You didn't book through MS, you booked through Disney Reservation Center. You don't have a DVC reservation. With Thanksgiving earlier this year, the week before is a busy week - Veterans Day on Nov 11. You have Jersey week the week before and they may be extending through Monday. The Wine and Dine half marathon on the 9th and 10th, again maybe extending because of the holiday.

You probably should have booked your home resort at 11 months out and tried to switch at exactly seven months out.

Very much appreciate these posts... Even after all these years in DVC, I get a little confused. I knew the knowledgeable friends on the boards could help.

May call MS and see if I can book through them. Was just confused since we starting trying so long ago to get a room...

Thanks

See if you can get another resort instead of BWV or BCV if it is important to you.

In looking Saratoga was the only option, wanted to stay near EPCOT... Will work more on long range planning next time.

Do you own an Epcot resort?

Epcot resorts are notoriously hard to book for non owners from early October through mid-January. Its pretty much a call the day the seven month window opens sort of thing. There are hundreds of owners in the same boat as you are - they'd like to stay in an Epcot resort, but there are not rooms that belong to members. Many of them got on the waitlist months ago.

In selling rooms back to CRO for this period, DVC can get better prices out of Disney, meaning our trades to do things like cruising are more reasonable than they'd otherwise be. If CRO only buys the rooms no one wants, they can't resell them, and if they can't resell them, they don't buy them - or buy them for pennies on the dollar - and if they do that, DVC can't pay for members to cruise.

If you own an Epcot resort (or any in demand resort) you are best off booking as soon as you possibly can. If not, you need to be on the phone (or computer) as soon as the window opens.

What resort are you having trouble reserving in the home priority booking? Or perhaps it's rather what resort and for what time of the year? Some times are very, very busy and you do have to book closer to 11 months than 7-8 months.

I still would like to know why they are selling AKV Value rooms.
There are only a few of these.
How do they end up in the cash inventory?

No idea on what they sell. Maybe something to recover as much funds as possible.

Probably to make cash customer feel they are getting a deal.. Probably the cash customers will be upgraded to a standard style studio upon arrival.

Or the concierge rooms. :sad2:

My understanding is that there are some cash concierge suites at AKL Jambo as well as the AKV Concierge rooms.

I would think that the percentage that Disney owns would cover all room types including value and concierge.

This is a definitely possibility. Even after the most recent declarations, AKV still has 11.37% that belongs to DVD. Plus, DVD still owns over 1.7 million AKV points that it can use. DVD has the same rights and privileges as any other AKV owner, meaning that it can use its points to book any type of accommodations it desires.

They can book just like any other owner except they don't follow the same restrictive rules. Disney will do what's good for Disney, not what's good for anyone else including DVC owners.

Yes, and that's the disconcerting thing. They are not having to get online or call in at 11 months in order to reserve the harder to get rooms. They just allocate it and it's not available for membes to book with points. The thing that surprised me most though is that I had heard that at BWV CRO did not get the standard or boardwalk view rooms. Because of the booking restrictions members have that seems like the fair way - but I guess they changed their mind about that for AKV. I have not done much looking at BLT to see what CRO is getting there.

If you read those documents Disney sends you when you buy....

Disney holds all the power, we hold none.

Accepting that makes owning DVC much less frustrating.
