DVC resorts and Ebay

Has anyone ever won a bid on a stay @ either OKW or Boardwalk on ebay?

We've bid on many things from ebay and we've stayed at DVC resorts several times, as well, but we've never combined the two. I think a better option would be to rent points directly from the owner at the DVC Rent/Trade Board. You probably will get a better deal as many owners have points to rent (of course, you can do the math---maybe the ebay thing is OK). I might be a bit nervous about working out the details of an ebay "purchase" of acommodations (we've been burned once on ebay) but I suppose it's no more risky than renting points on these boards.

Sorry to offer so little help. Do try the DVC rent/trade board b/f you buy on ebay.

a few years ago, we had bid on an auction, but we didnt win . i dont recall if i emailed or the seller emailed me, well anyways we ended up renting points from her three times, before we bought dvc, and actually ended up with super great deals only charged us $6 a point and ended up with a email-friend.
by reading some of these posts, it seems some ebay seller ends up geting $13 a point, you have to decide if you want to pay $13 a point on ebay or checking out the rent/trade board and rent for $10-$11 going price

we had friends tthat won an auction on ebay the same time we rented and now that i know how maney points you need, they ended up paying $14.50 a point and that was a couple years ago.

I have sold quite a few DVC stays on eBay, but none recently. It's a great way to get more than $10 a point even after the eBay fees.

Anyone who pays more than $10 per point for DVC on an e-bay auction or anywhere is more than likely just feeding the gluttons who purchased DVC for the purposes of making a profit and is getting seriously ripped off.

If you are looking for points I would ask on the R & T board here, there may be someone who can't use their points and is likely willing to help somebody make a Disney dream come true without taking them to the cleaners.

Plus the way the economy and travel are right now, you can get a better deal direct from Disney if you stay at a Disney resort.

If you purchase on e-bay do the math and make certain that you are not getting ripped off.

To determine what to charge, call CRO for a ressie and see what they charge. Then divide that amount PLUS TAX by $10. I will assure you the number of points you come up with is not enough to stay there if you did it on points. $10 is too low these days. The going rate should be $12-14 PER POINT, but many people are just trying to dump unsused points, and they do not get full value.

Saying that people are ripping others off is not recognizing the value of DVC. If I shop at a store and I pay more for milk than I do at another store am I getting "ripped off"?

A week at BWV in a 2BR at Spring Break is costing us 306 points. at $10 a point that is $3,060.

Now through CRO, the cost in cash is $6,946.52 which includes tax. That is over $20 a point! And CRO does NOT discount the deluxe resorts! WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Well, not to sound like DVC isn't worth a lot, because it is, but I've worked out the math before at least on some studios, and often somewhere around $15-$16 a point works out to be the passholder or Florida resident rate for a cash ressie. So that's why I think a lot of people aren't willing to pay more than about $12 a point or so, or less, depending on time of year and resort, for transactions that require some trust and aren't directly between the guest and Disney.

Never rented my points, but if I could get a better price using eBay, why not! eBay is a terrific service.

There have been so many threads on this. I was looking to exchange out my DVC for a Key West resort (the Galleon) and couldn't come up with an even exchange. Anyway, the owner of the Key West property offered me his property for what it would cost if I paid rack rate (and then said to make him an offer). However, I would guess, based on this experience and common sense, that keeping the cost nice and low and ultra-reasonable for renters is specific only to DVC. I'm not planning on renting, but I think it's kind of strange that people get upset at others for not providing huge discounts. I'm just an observer.

Yes, but if you book through CRO, you do get daily maid service!
