We are recent DVC members and want some feedback from those who have stayed at the various resorts...We want our first trip to be incredible so any feedback on Saratoga Springs (our home resort) and Old Key West would be very appreciated! Which is the better stay? Does Old Key West show its age? Please give us your input as we are going during the Halloween season and need this input to help make our decision. Thanks for all tips and comments! pirate: pirate: pirate: princess: princess:

1st Welcome to the DIS and DVC.

We love SSR for it's newness and great overall design. The rooms are just stuning. We wanted to at least make our first stay at our Home resort and then didn't try to change our DEC trip. We now have stayed 2 times and are looking to try the others now.

We will always book SSr at the 11 month and then try to switch at the 7 month mark. This way if not then we will just happely stay at SSR

We have not stayed in OKW yet but will be. I think either would be fine.

We own at OKW and stay there most often, although we have stayed at SSR also.

SSR is very large and new, and has kind of upscale furnishings. It is near DTD, but for some reason seems to take just as long to get there as it does from OKW. We have walked to DTD from both resorts, and find it a similar experience. OKW is a bit farther, but if you are staying on the south end, seems to take not much longer than walking from parts of SSR.

OKW in general is not really showing its age because Disney maintanes it quite well. We have been members for 10 years, and have seen appliances replaced, beds replaced, apholstered furniture replaced etc, in all the units we have stayed in. Only once did we have a unit that seemed overly worn, and when inquiring at the desk, we were informed that it was due for rehab as soon as we checked out (that was a GV building).

We liked SSR okay, but we generally don't care for the layout of rooms in the non/OKW resorts. They all seem to have too many doors. That being said, we did find SSR very comfortable and quiet.

The things we like better about OKW (compared to SSR) is that the units feel a bit more casual and homey. SSR seems a bit stuffy to us. We love the large open spaces at OKW and in the OKW units. It feels like a vacation home to us rather than a hotel (like many of the other DVC resorts) or an apartment complex like SSR. We like the real community feel of OKW too, and love being able to park right outside your door. Love the wildlife that abounds outside the large deck too. That was the thing we missed most at SSR.

First of all, congratulations on your DVC purchase, and welcome to the DIS Boards!

Both resorts are deluxe accommodations, and great resorts in their own right. Since you own at SSR, I'm a believer in taking your first trip at your home resort to begin your DVC experience with the place you call "home". I think you will enjoy many aspects of the DVC experience, and it would be good to associate those with your home resort as you will probably be staying there often over the years.

Neither resort is the "better stay". I'm assuming from the size of your family that you'll be in a 1BR or larger, and for that villa type you will find the OKW rooms to be significantly bigger than other DVC resorts. Aside from that, both resorts have much to offer and it really comes down to what you are looking for in a resort.

I don't think you can go wrong with your choice, but as indicated I would lean towards SSR. Enjoy your DVC membership! :)

Thanks to those who took the time to help us make our decision...we're head to SSR and booked the vacation for October! We can't Wait!!::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo pirate: pirate: princess:

glad you decided on SSR.

while I love OKW - you should bond first with 'your' dvc resort.

so that it will began to feel more like 'home'.

and the others DVC resorts will be visiting....

I have come to love them Both so I would be of little help.lol We stayed at OKW twice so far and loved the overall beauty, tropical, laid back feel, and my kids voted the slide to be the best DVC slide. SSR was also awesome and we really liked the pool area and the easy walk (or boat ride) to DTD.

My advice for both of these resorts is to take the time to explore and enjoy them.

These are our 2 favorite resorts :cloud9: and really don't think you could go wrong either way. To us, they are very different & we like them each for different reasons.

I do agree with spiceycat in suggesting that you start with your home resort first but either way I don't think you will be disappointed.

What are you looking for in a resort & who is in your party? kids? adults?

We have 2 adults and 3 children (ages 8,3,3) plus a set of grandparents coming too....we're glad we booked our "home" resort first! OKW will definitely be in the mix next year :)

thanks again for all the posts.
