Very true. And, you also won’t get a 1099 and tax reporting obligation with a trade in, although on $13/point, you’re not going to have much income to report after expenses.

Correct PayPal will issue them but with all of the changes over the years I am not sure of the limit that requires them to do so.

Yeah, for 2025, it is $2,500 (in most states), but scheduled to go down to $600 in 2026 and thereafter. And, I think that would be a cumulative amount, meaning, if you had multiple small transactions through PayPal through them that added up above those amounts, you'd still get a 1099. If you rent directly with someone outside of the brokers, you can ask that they specify "friends and family"/non-good/services payment, and then I believe they will not issue a 1099.

Update to my original post is that I lost the reservation after 8 days, I don’t know how I lost it after 8 days bc when I called on day 7 she said there was availability but no one was claiming it so where did it go if it didn’t go to me….im butthurt

David’s had no availability when I finally caved and tried them. We booked direct for it w Disney

But David’s pays through PayPal and I believe PayPal will issue a 1099. Right?

Based on my experience renting and now having access to the owner portal, here is what I think happened. When you submit your request through the dvcrentalstore.com, I think they have an automated way to check whether those dates are available (as in, available for DVC Members to book with their points). If it is, then you get an almost instant automated e-mail saying, good news, your dates are available, please pay your deposit and we'll attempt to have an owner book your stay using their points. Then they put out the request on the owner portal. Because they're only paying $13/point and the dates are pretty far into the future (i.e, not distressed points), no one claims it. And, eventually, the dates are gone because DVC owners book it for their own use.

When you called dvcrequest.com, the dates were probably already gone. It just took dvcrentalstore.com a few days for their system to realize it and tell you they could no longer secure the reservation.

I'm not exactly sure how dvcrequest.com works, but I sense that their process for renting is a lot more manual. That sounds like the process for https://dvcrequest.com/. I recently rented out points with them. I submitted a form with my home resort, UY and number of points I’d be willing to rent. A few days before the 11 month window, they contacted me saying they had an interested renter. They gave me the specifics of when to log on, what to book and all info for the guests.

The good news is you were paid more than $13 a point then if it was booked at 11 months and most likely $18.

You didn’t lose it because they never had it. Where it likely went was to DVC owners who wanted to stay at the resort you wanted & once the 7 month window opened they booked their vacations or switched from their home resort to the one you wanted.
All DVC owners can book or switch to any DVC resort at 7 months except the 3 restricted resorts - Riviera, Disneyland Hotel, & the cabins - but even w/ the restricted resorts most owners can switch to them at 7 months too (only resale who’ve bought since 2019 can’t.) March is 7 months from now, thus the non home resort booking window has been opening on a day by day basis this month.
I surmised that you wanted a cabin at Ft. Wilderness & took a quick look at March availability 2 days ago & saw that the cabins had spotty availability for any March date already w/in the 7 month window & suspected you weren’t going to have your request met - there’s not much DVC inventory to book at the cabins right now (DVC hasn’t sold many points there yet & thus hasn’t made many of the cabins eligible to be booked on points https://dvcnews.com/wdw-resorts/ft-...tory-for-the-cabins-at-fort-wilderness-resort) & it looks like those cabins eligible to be booked via DVC are going pretty fast at 7 months likely booked by non home resort owners wanting to try out the new resort.
Hopefully you’ll get your deposit back quickly.
BTW, w/ new resorts DVC ‘declares’ inventory into the association periodically, so if between now & March they declare more cabins into DVC & you act fast you might have a shot at getting one on points, so you might keep an eye on that possibility.
