Perhaps some of you have some experience?

We plan on renting DVC points for the first time for a trip next year, our honeymoon. I had been hoarding some credit card points to use on it, but that was before I discovered DVC rental. My credit card points can only be applied to things that are considered a travel category for the merchant code.

I was hoping someone's rented recently through some of the sites, like Davids, Scott's DVC rental, DVC rental store...

Add-on question. Say I can't use the points on the rental, if I charge meals/souvenirs to the room during the trip, is it charged under the hotel (and therefore a travel category I could redeem points against)?

Thanks!

A lot will depend on the CC and the bank that services it. One CC might categorize them as travel while another might code it as an "internet purchase". There's no one size fits all answer. According to their website, David's charges appear as Capitol Technologies - DVCR on statements. You could call your CC company to find out how they are categorized.

That's a good idea. I feel silly; I chatted with the rental sites to see what they said, but didn't think to check with the card company. Is there a face-palm smiley?

Going to try chatting with my credit card companies today, will report back in case anyone is interested. My main goal is a Barclay Mastercard.
