DVC Rental - No Answer - Insight Please

I have requested a 2 bedroom Standard View 2 Bedroom Villa at AKL. Dates Dec. 27 - Jan. 5th and 397 points. At 11 months out and over a week, nobody has picked up my request to rent their points. Is this normal?

Yes. At 11 months out, you will need an AKL owner that has 397 points available and willing to rent. 397 points is quite a lot of points frankly, and I suspect the number of owners renting that many are few and far between, especially at the 11 month mark when only AKL owners can make the reservation.

All that said, I'm not sure if the brokers have a way of doing two separate reservations and linking them? In other words, if they can secure your reservation for the first half of your trip with one owner, and do a second reservation for the last half of your trip with another owner, I wonder if the broker would facilitate that or if they'd stick to just one.

Not really. They would need both owners to get on the line with MS to link those reservations. Brokers do not own the points and can't get reservations linked, as nothing about the reservation is in their name. That's why brokers tend to stick with single-owner rentals.

The broker that is currently paying the most for AKV points (they are paying owners $13 per point right now) has 96 outstanding 7-11 month booking requests for AKV, and is seeking 17,000 total AKV points.

I would expect to be waiting a while, and have a backup plan. Demand for DVC rental far outpaces the points available, especially from October-marathon. Your dates include marathon, which means that while AKV is among the last resorts to book up, there may very well be no room at the inn by the time the 7 month window opens.

Yes, this is possible. Our first time renting, we had two members renting points to us through a broker. This latest trip, our broker was able to cover our whole trip through just one member. For us, there was zero difference in the process. I'm not sure how much extra work for the broker our first trip caused, though.

We always rent points and it's very common. Sometimes I get a reservation within 24 hours, the longest I've waited is 3 weeks. We use Dave's and they are good about keeping in touch. Don't be afraid to call or email your broker and ask for an update!
