thanks! it's a good / great price (was not counting it as 4 nights, my bad). For sure september will be gone, I'll ask David for spring or later 2012. YEAH!

I would sell mine for $12,
Its alot of work for the MEMBER, but for the $$$ its worthe the effort to get the points sold

Hi RVCHAT,

You probably will find fewer dvc owners renting points right now on the rent/trade boards. I've been a member of this site and a dvc owner for 10 years, recently disboards changed the rules that a member needs 50 posts spread out evenly over 6 months in order to "advertise" their points for rent.

I tend to browse the disboards and only post when I feel I have something to add. Not another "Is the food at the HDDR any good" will I reply to. I have rented points twice via the boards and found it very useful and easy.

That being said, while the rent/trade boards don't seem very busy right now, check back for your next trip, you'll find many renters with past positive experience, references, a willingness to rent any number of points and accept personal/certified checks, and a going rate of $10 / per point!

Good luck - hope you can stay DVC, you'll love it.

(this is not a overt attempt to sell my points! Don't have any extra anyway)

All true!!!!!
hHaving a paypal acct makes it even easier and safer for both. I have sold points and using paypal works out great for all.

We rented from DVC owners twice before we decided to buy a DVC membership. Both times we went through the Rent/Trade board here on the DIS and didn't have any problems. In fact made some great friends in the end...
We don't have any extra points, otherwise I'd rent them, but check out the board.
Good Luck and Have a wonderful time...
Looking forward to our 1st stay at AK Villas this fall!! Savannah view.... ahhhhhh

:goodvibes

I'm there (rent/trade) . Some of the people posting CAN'T get PMs as they're too 'new' i guess. ? Probably go with Dave, waiting on his email. :3dglasses

Everyone there can get PMs. No new members are posting there. Only est members with frequent postings. Not sure why your PM's aren't going through.

you can always rent from an owner for about $10 per point. I wouldn't pay a service a premium for something you can get directly from an owner for a reduced rate. But that's just me.

I can understand that..but..for someone who really has no clue how the whole thing works, working with a middle man might be a good idea to start.

Most likely he will not be able to give you any answers about next spring or later 2012. Keep in mind that DVC'ers can't rent out until 7-11 months in advance and they are very strict about this even down to the day! I've been a DVC member for 11 years and have been renting points out on the rent/trade board and privately now for 6 or 7 years and it definitely takes trust to do so on both sides.

DVC owners can book their home resort starting now for reservations through late march 2012. depends on who david has signed up at the home resort you are looking for...

I rented points for the first time for our October trip. I rented 7 months out. Found the owner on the rent/trade board and they were so very helpful. I believe it was $12 a point I paid. They have a contract. They did take Paypal for a 4% fee but I just paid by check. It is during the F&W festival. I got 1 night at AKL and 2 nights at BC. I believe Dave has the "less in demand" reservations such as SSR. It was confusing at first but now I "get it.".

Good luck.

for 3 nights.

so, CAn I buy 39 points somewhere and book those dates for AKL?

Just checking to see if I get this confusing stuff. Thanks all.

Before anybody else gets their undies in a bunch, do you know if AKL has those rooms available? If not send me a Private Message with what kind of room you want (value, standard view, 1br, bla bla bla) and the day to want to check in and the day you want to check out. I'll call them up to check to see if there are any of those rooms available for those dates and let you know.

Honestly that is a waste of MS time, therefore member dues. Availabilty changes minute to minute. There is 20 or less rooms that are value studios and most are booked at 11 months to the day. Unless you are ready to book then I would not bother.

OP you would need to have something arranged with either david or a private owner at 11 months out and it would need to be a AKV member.

And you can get yourself in trouble with the moderators by going around the rent/trade board. Only general questions are allowed about renting on other boards. OP I would remove your dates in the orginal post before a moderator see them.

Actually thats not true. I am not a AKV member and have been able to get a value studio on several occasions both for myself and for others without a problem. In fact I just reserved on last month for the first two nights of my stay in Aug. And it is certainly not a wast of MS time to check and see what the availability is at the resorts, that is their job, to check availability, do booking and help in whatever way they can.

Yes it is a waste of time for a DVC member because if you are not going to book right then it is a waste of MS time. DVC members pay for MS so it is a waste of time and money which we all members pay for. If you are not actually going to bother to book on that call then why bother and waste you and MS time and members money. I guess I just perfer to keep my dues down.

I am a AKV member and have waitlisted for a value room several times when I waited a few days past the 11 month window until plans are finalized.

Inappropriate use of / waste of Member Services' time is of course debatable. What is not debatable is that it is generally a waste of the caller's time if you are not ready to book on that same call. Availability changes WHILE you are on the phone trying to make your reservation, so calling in advance of being ready serves no purpose because it may be different in 30 seconds.

This. Not sure why the whole "waste of time" thing is being debated. What one considers a waste of time, another may not. I have known many people to get a value studio at AKL inside the 11 month window. As a matter of fact, I could have gotten one at the 7 month window but I wanted a savanna view. It depends on the time of year.

The DISboards DVC Rent/Trade forum is the ONLY place on the DIS where you can make arrangements for renting points. Please take the conversation to that forum. Be sure to carefully read the informational posts there regarding the right way to list points you have available or to offer to rent points from someone else.
