Have you ever done this... I am seriously thinking about renting some DVC points in order to stay in so of the deluxe resorts....SO please give me your pros and cons and where you stayed if you did it....

If you go over on the DVC boards there is a few good stickys to read.

I haven't rented points, but I have rented points to others. The upside is it is significantly less expensive than paying Disney. The downsides are - you will be asked for payment in full upon confirmation. Unless you get in a three-way call with the DVC owner and owners' services, it can be not as efficient in determining what is available for your dates. For example, one time I had someone ask me for a VWL reservation. I called Owner's services, they told me they had all but the first night available, I communicated that to the renter and by the time they told me that was OK, owner's services had one fewer days available. :headache: So, if you're OK with giving up some control and having an intermediary deal with Disney, you can certainly save money and stay in very nice accommodations.

I've been renting points from someone I met on the DIS DVC Rent/Trade Board 4 years ago. I have to admit that the first time I was a little nervous but we've developed a great trusting relationship and I get to stay at the Boardwalk Villas every year for what it would cost for a moderate.

I followed the guidelines that the Dis has on the rent trade board as far as renting from a Dis member that had been on the Dis for a while and had a lot of posts. It's worked well for me and I have read that others have had good luck also.

Before DBIL bought points, we rented and it was great. Entered into a contract with the owner, and we were both very happy with the outcome. I would have a hard time staying in a regular room after being spoiled at DVC!

My parents are DVC owners but have rented points when they needed them for extra rooms for a stay or something...I think they went through dvcbyresale.com. As far as I know, they had no problems with the transaction (or at least I didn't hear about any problems they may have had. And trust me, I would have heard about them! )

I've done it, 3 times with the same DVC owner.

There are some DVC members that are renting their points for $8 or $7 dollars, which is a huge bargain. A couple of years ago, if you could find someone to rent at $10 a point, was a small miracle.

DVC studios are the lowest in points, if you need a larger room, it will be more points. Right now WDW has a promotion of 40% off rooms at Deluxes till August. You would almost be paying less to stay if you just went this route. You get 2 queen beds.

I also have rented numerous times - mostly from the same DVC owner. We have a trusting relationship so I do not fear not having a reservation when I show up! Of course, you never(well, only once in all my DIS time)have heard about someone getting cheated. You could check out the DVC rental board and get a feel for what people are asking per point. $10 is still a good deal that can be had. You can always ask for references from the renter, if that would make you feel more comfortable. You might want to check to see if the renter is new to DIS(see the # of their posts)to determine if they've been around on the DIS a while.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my time at the Boardwalk Villas - I'll never convince my hubby to buy into DVC, but I can spend my 5 nights a year there anyways for about what I'd pay at a value resort. Trust is a huge part of doing this, but I've never had anything but helpful DVC'ers that I've rented from.

I'd be very interested in doing something like this but like other posters have said, I'm a little worried about getting cheated out of my money. I've heard great things about this website: http://www.dvcrequest.com/ but I've never personally used it. This website charges $13/point. I think you could probably rent for cheaper from someone on here but like I said, I need to find a trustworthy person!
