I was just wondering if anyone had any first night traditions that were unique to DVC resorts. Perhaps, always going to the Iron Spike Room at VWL, walking around OKW, going to SAB. For example, our first night tradition is always to get take out at "Goods to Go" at OKW, go back to our villa and eat on the porch while we sit and relax. Truly feels like we're at our vacation home then.

Interesting question. More and more our first night takes us to dinner at the Cape May Cafe. We stay at the BWV or BCV, so it's conveneient.

I really enjoy unpacking and putting everything away in the drawers and closets at our OKW villa and settling in to HOME! I usually head out to the deck first thing to see what our "view" is! I spend a lot of time out on the deck when we are at OKW!

Does going to Publix count? LOL It is unique to DVC for me..and we do go our first day.;)

We head to the grocery store. Last May on our first night, we ordered pizza from Uno's, went to Winn-Dixie, picked up the pizza and spend our first night at OKW getting settled, I think we watched the Survivor final. I think our flight did not arrive until about 4:30, so we didn't have much time to go to a park. Next Saturday at BWV, our flight arrives around 11:30am, we'll probably eat lunch at ESPN and then head for groceries, then go to Epcot.

Hmmm... first night traditions.... Yes, but this is not the appropriate forum to discuss them! :teeth:

Hi.

California Grill. We have Bombay gin and tonics, dinner, dessert, and take in the view....

I unpack all the family clothes as noted above to make us feel at home whilst at the same time being relaxed and organised

Have not stayed at all resorts yet but our day ones:

1) A trip to the MK regardless of how short since DS#1 still states the MK is Disneyworld :earsboy:

2) LOL, a trip to Publix or Winn Dixie is always in the cards on Day #1

3) At OKW, a walk around Turtle Krawl and a trip through the General Store

4) At VB, a permiter walk of the property, and of course a walk down to the beach

thanks

We stop at the grocery store on the way from the airport, unpack, and head straight to Magic Kingdom. Although this February, we will probably head to Epcot first, as we have dinner reservations at Alfredo's. :teeth:

Well the last couple of trips we have decided to leave when the kids get off of school on Friday instead of waiting until Saturday morning so we can have a complete day on Saturday to play. So given that fact we get into Orlando at around 6:00 PM so by the time we get to our resort and check in it is around 8:00 PM. So, our first night tradition the last couple of trips has been to unpack and then go sit on our balcony and watch Illuminations and then go to bed and start the day out bright and early. I think watching Illuminations is a wonderful way to start out our vacation.

I haven't been home yet so I don't have a tradition, but I hope to start one! Being at SSR and so close to DTD I think going there and hanging out or shopping will be our new tradition. It's just DH and I now so PI is an option or DQ - we loved it last time!

Going home to SSR Dec 04!

We head straight to the Super Wal-mart for food and any necessities like water wings or fun noodles. On our way back to OKW we divert to KRISPY KREME to pick up a couple dozen fresh donuts. There is nothing like eating one of those when they are hot!!! That is when we know we are really on vacation.

We tend to spend the first night at "home". Guess what we have for breakfast??

We unpack, go explore the resort, have our traditional first night dinner--pasta and meatballs in the room, get the kids into bed early, and just relax and enjoy the fact we're at WDW!!

Oooh! Near OKW is a real Krispy Kreme shoppe? I've heard so much about them, but only gotten them at supermarkets, and yes, at the Airport (there's a KK stand at Dallas Love). Directions, please!

We are the same as a previous poster......
On our first night we are always back at our resort watching Illuminations from our balcony.
Just had to add to the Krispie Kreme saga.......We just got our first Krispie Kreme that opened last Tuesday! It is like the biggest thing to happen around here in ages. This got more PR coverage then the opening of a new casino gets and for this area.......that is saying a lot!!!!!! The take out window has yet to have a morning when there is less than a 20 minute wait during the busy rush hour commute time!

Directions to Krispy Kreme from OKW: Not super close but definately worth the drive. If you go to www.mapquest.com and put in these addresses you can pull up directions and a map you can print and play around with.

From OKW:

1510 N Cove Rd
Lake Buena Vista, FL
32830 US

to Krispy Kreme:

5310 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy
Kissimmee, FL
34746-4754 US

Sorry, I am not good with directions. :o

the first thing we do is to fill the jet tub with hot water and bleach and clean out those jets.

As for KK's, You will never get tired of them. We have had KK's in our town for 50 or 60 years and a new one is still the biggest news story. One of the very first KK's closed down last year (50 years of sugar and grease = infestation) It was a sad day. But a bigger better and cleaner one opened up.

Usually we unpack and hit the food store (Winn Dixie) and then we head over to the Boardwalk so I can stand in my favorite spot in all of WDW (right out front of the Flying Fish) and hear the Friendship IV horn and just thats it, I feel like I am home.

This year we are staying at WLV for the first time so I am sure I will just want to stand in the lobby and cry looking at the beautiful decorations!!:D
