I just referred my next-door neighbours (DH, DW, 2x DS, 2xDD) to my DVC Guide for purchasing DVC. They are the perfect family for DVC -- been to WDW 5x in the last 8 years, just stayed at POFQ (don't ask me how) and so fully understand the cost of a WDW vacation. Apparently, they are quite excited about receiving their DVC package. I might add further temptation by sharing some past issues of Vacation Magic with them. (if only I knew where DW put them.)

Since I called my DVC guide directly with their contact info -- will they need to give my DVC info if they purchase for us to qualify for the DVC referral bonus, or will the referral be already considered?

No I think you should have say upfront this is a referral - anyway yes they will need your membership number and name.

Guides are picky about referrals. You should not only tell your guide in advance, you should also have your friends tell your guide--if possible in their FIRST conversation with the guide.

This is interesting. I got a referal without even knowing it. My friend, who I knew was considering DVC, called the 1-800 on her own. The person who answered the phone, asked her if she knew anyone who owned DVC and she said me. Well, the person then said that my guide had to call her back. I got the referal without doing a thing!! It was really weird!

Canadians do not qualify for any Referral Incentives.

You won't get squat!

But your Guide will sure Love You!

Didn't realize that Canuck were considered amongst the unwashed when it comes to DVC referrals. I knew that DVC members could earn referral incentives for referring Canadians -- but my friend was from the US. Ah well -- just having our guide love us is incentive enough.

We had the same experience your friend had. When we first called DVC sales, they asked if we were referred by anyone. As it happens, we have close friends who have owned OKW for years and have always spoken highly of it, so we gave their names. At that point sales broke off the conversation, looked up our friends' guide, and transferred us to him. And yes, because we mentioned our friends in the FIRST conversation, they got the referral bonus.

There are probably Canadian laws which prohibit any sort of incentive for a timeshare referral. This is the reason that members from some US States are eligible for a reward while others are not.

Here is the list of states that allow referrals:

Alabama, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisianna, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missisippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The REFERRING member must reside in one of the above states in order to be eligible for the reward. The new member being referred can reside in any state.

Bonuses are based upon the number of successful referrals in one calendar year. I believe that the calendar year is based upon the year in which the closing occurs.

1st referral-$200 Disney Dollars
2nd referral-$350 Disney Dollars
3rd referral-$500 Disney Dollars

Several weeks after closing, DVC will notify the referrer and offer several options for the bonus: receive the funds in cash (Disney Dollars), apply to next year's Annual Dues, or apply toward an add-on purchase.

We also received a mailing from DVC earlier this year indicating that for referrals in 2004, they were offering a special framed DVC pin set as an incentive.

Note that in order to be eligible for the referral, the prospective member MUST mention your name during the very first encounter with DVC--be it a tour, phone call, etc. Even if someone took a tour 5 years ago and has since done nothing, chances are DVC still has their name on file somewhere and you will not be eligible for a referral bonus on a purchase made today.
