DVC Referral Program- What types of rewards?

That is not true at all. I'm not sure how long you have been a member, but they have mailed out referral information numerous times in the past with the reward information enclosed. Plus, all the information that I had on my previous post is listed right on the Member's Site. The reason that certain states do not participate are because of regulations in the state, not DVC.

Sorry but how is telling MEMBERS what the rewards are giving full disclosure to the BUYER? That's what full disclosure is. Not one of the ppl PM'ing me to use them said "please use my name and I'll get $200 if you do".

I guess I'm missing the issue here. Who says that full disclosure is required? Should I be telling people that I talk to about the DVC that I get a thank you letter from my Guide?

Maybe I am misunderstanding. Are you saying the reason that certain states don't allow it is because DVC doesn't say to the buyer, "The person who referred you will now receive a gift valued at $200."? So the problem is that DVC is not disclosing to the buyer what the referral will give a reward to the member? Sounds pretty tacky to have to say that to someone being referred. I'm not sure if that reason is entirely true. Maybe it is in some states. I can't argue that, because I do not know the particular laws in each state that do not allow it. If you do, maybe you could post the exact law(s). Then the people here that have more energy than I do could try to have it changed or speak with DVC about it. I myself always tell the person I referred to be sure to mention us right away because we will get a reward gift if they do. I don't feel it is DVC's job to do that. Then again, maybe I am missing your entire point.

We just had a referral and chose Disney Dollars. We received them via Fedex and will use them on our next trip!

CarolAnn,

How long did it take between the time you redeemed your reward on line and when you actually received your fedex pack with the Disney Gift Card? We have a Disneyland trip in 2 weeks, and I would like to use it then if possible.

Thanks

I referred a co-worker last year and requested Disney dollars too. I believe it took about 3-4 weeks after they were official members. Annmarie

Second, there are only certain states that allow referral rewards. The current eligible States are: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Puerto Rico also is an eligible jurisdiction. Some of the states have certain restrictions too. Like IL, where I live, you can only redeem up $1,000 worth of reward each year.

I never understood this. We are in Pennsylvania and I have had people use my name as a referral. All I have ever gotten is a letter thanking me. After the first referral I asked my rep and he confirmed that PA was not an eligible state. He suggested I moved to Jersey, funny guy! I still refer people all the time, but I never expect anything more then a thank you now.

Pacpl,
I called Member Services this morning to verify about PA, since its listed on their website saying Pa is eligible to receive reward. I just referred someone and was told i will receive 200 dollars.

I have a question, I got a thank you letter the other week about a referral and that they were sending them the information. How will I know if they buy and I get the reward? Will my guide send me a letter or will it just show up on the website?

Thats odd.. Anyone wanna buy a thank you letter for $200

We were told they say as you about Castaway club. But recently we recieved our membership cards with a letter hoping we enjoyed our recent cruise...which was about 18months ago. (We live in England)

Unfortunately think Disney must get their act together and treat all members equally in some way. Here in the UK not only do we not receive credit for referrall we are told we cannot receive Castaway Club membership information for security reasons. Very strange they cannot send this through the mail but can send promotional disney material for us.

This is, in our opinion, the only way Disney lets us down.
Brenda:confused:

But isn't that your country's laws, not Disney's rules??:confused3

Isn't that also the problem with the various states that don't allow it, that particular state's rules governing such things?

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding.

Don't know what happened with us! We are British, and last year we were looking around and were um-ing and ar-ing about buying into DVC, when another British family, who were already members, were looking around the new AKV rooms too. We have a quick chat in the one-bedroom villa setup and they convinced us that it was a good thing to do. When our guide took us back to the room, she said that she would get their name from their guide, and would use them as a refer since they convinced us to join. We were told that we, and they, would receive a $500 reward.

Sure enough, a few weeks after closure, we got our $500 gift card through the post. It has an expiry date (a year after closure), and needs to be activated, but we have it and can't wait to spend it! :goodvibes

You, as the party that was referred, were allowed the "reward" which is actually considered a discount or rebate on the purchase. The people referring you likely did not receive anything except a "Thank you" note from their guide, if the UK laws are anything similar to the laws in many US states.

"Finders fees" for the referrer and purchase discounts for those referred are legally two different things.

Okay, well that makes more sense :goodvibes Thanks, did wonder why we got it!

We done several referrals over the last few years and only once did we receive any acknowledgement from DVC. My guess is most buyers have made an initial contact with DVC prior to purchasing. We love our DVC and I'm all for helping others receive any discount they many find.

In the last few months several have received the discount in purchasing with a referral, but I doubt very many members actually received a gift in return. I enjoy seeing others get the best possible price when buying.

Unless the rule has changed in the last three months you do not need to be referred prior to first contact. I went on the tour when I was at WDW but did not buy and instead started to research my purchase. I then stumbled upon this site and found lots of good information. I called my guide back and said I had a referral and asked if I could get the additional incentives (a 7 day Disney cruise or more off per point) and his response was, "Absolutely. And We do this at Disney because people will leave here unsure but then as they start to talk to others, do research, they are convinced by other members that it is a good idea and we here at Disney like to reward those individuals for assisting us with our product." That quote was actually a paraphrase. He mentioned Disboards in the conversation without my prompting it too.

My suggestion for those states/countries where you cannot act as a referral but still do like the product is to buddy with someone who is in a state/country that can. Then you can split the referral gift while continuing to talk about the product/service you love. For example, I would love to help my Commonwealth citizens, since I can get a referral here in Ontario, Canada. ;)

My question for Texas residents is that if you are a registered real estate salesperson, would you then be entitled to "earn" the referral incentive as a commission? You would still have to pay taxes on it, but still...

Yours is a great example of what I was getting at...you received the referral incentive when you purchased, but the member whom referred you would receive nothing as you had a previous contact about DVC before you purchased.

This is also incorrect. The member that referred me is from New York and she received her $350 gift card in the mail not too long ago.

That's interesting since we've been told by our guide we didn't qualify for the reward since it wasn't their first contact with the buyers.

I am a realtor here in Toronto, Canada and I do a fair bit of work with new condo developments. Every builder has a rule that for me to earn a commission I must accompany my clients on the first visit. This said, a number of people working at the builder sites have "added me" as the introducing salesperon even though my clients walked in without me. In every instance where this was the case the reasoning for bending the rule is that my clients may not have purchased without my influence. So maybe it depends on the guide?
