Hello,

I am considering becoming a DVC member, but before I do I'd like to know the answers to some questions from current DVC members. :)

1) How does the point system work? How much money does each point cost?

2) Could I stay in a non DVC resort (Polynesian, Grand Floridian) with the DVC points?

3) Do I have to stay at the same DVC resort year after year, or can I stay at a different one each year?

4) Will the AKL villas be DVC participating?

Thanks,
Simon :)

If you get a pack from DVC, it will answer a lot of those questions. Here is a little help :)
1. Minimum purchase through DVC is 160 points. I think the current price is $104 a point. This is all you ever pay per point except for annual maintenance fees (they vary depending on your home resort). There are charts that show how many points you need for each night you book.
2. You can use your points to stay at any DVC resort & you can also use them to stay at the other Disney resorts, Disney Cruise lines, and more.
3. You can vacation as many times per year & at any resort that you want to(pending availablity & how many points you purchase)
4. AKL Villas are the newest DVC

1) So, I need to purchase $17,000 worth of points per year?!

2) This is good to know. :)

3) Excellent!

4) I can't wait to stay there then! :cool1:

NOOO ;) It is a ONE TIME purchase and will last you up to 50 years (depending on the home resort that you choose).

You do have annual maintenance fees (average around $4-$5 per point depending on the home resort)

OK, thanks so much for clarifying! :)

Hello,

Simon :)

You can use your points at non-DVC resorts - BUT....the point requirements are far, far higher in most cases. And, it's also important to understand that the point cost per night at the non-DVC resorts is not fixed, and the point costs can go up every year.

It's best to buy DVC if you intend to stay primarily at the DVC resorts. If that's not what you want to do, DVC may not be a good choice for you.

I read that there is a current incentive of $10 per point for SSR. Is that still true?

We just bought, so I believe the promo is as follows:

1. $10 off per point; or

2. Get double developer points. If you sign on for a 200 point contract, you get 400 points on top of your regular points. These developer points have to be used within 7 months.

OK, now the question is where should my new "home" be? We liked the VWL's when we were there in 2004, but the BCV and BWV also appeal to us. Whatever we choose, I want to be close to the MK or Epcot, so the AKL villas are out! :)

those are currently your options, then. while you can stay at any resort, those resorts are relatively smaller (especially BCV and VWL) and are more likely to be booked up by owners by the time the 7 month window rolls around...

but if you are young (and patient) and want more than 34 years of vacations through those resorts, you may want to hang around the boards and keep learning about DVC while hoping for disney to announce a DVC at the contemporary...

If you are buying directly from Disney, you will have to get on a wait list for any resort OTHER THAN SSR or AKV. All the other resorts are sold out. However, you can easily buy a resale contract at ANY of the resorts other than AKV. Keep in mind the expiration date is 2042 for all resorts except:

SSR - 2054
AKV - 2057
