DVC questions, may be wrong forum, need help

He said he has mailed the refund to me. If so, I'll just dismiss it as gross human error. We now have reservations at Pop (not DVC of course). Wasn't much to choose from only a few days out.

Wow, I hope it all works out and you and the family have a great time anyway. May all your wishes...come true. :tink:

Glad to hear you got a room...your trip will be wonderful, 'cause your great attitude is wonderful. I would've been a basket case.

I think you're being scammed/lied to by the owner, but I guess that doesn't matter much at this point. None of what you've said that they said rings very true to me either.

That's not necessarily true. I have had a terrible time getting emails to come through from DVC. Even adding the address to my allowed list they still get kicked out. It seems to me there should be more personal contact than that though before cancellation of ALL reservations. It sounds to me like this might have been a person who does a lot of renting, and perhaps there were more than 20 reservations made....thus cancellation.

Either way, I hope you get your money back from the DVC member, and I hope you still have a great trip! If you rented from someone on this site, it might be nice to communicate that to one of the mods on the DIS/DVC rent trade board.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I am glad that your trip is still going forward and you found a place to stay. I surely hope you do get your refund back and that this is not a scam. Keep us posted. There's always a bad apple in the bunch, but let's hope this was truly an honest mistake.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope your money really is on the way back to you. I would have requested to be paid back via Paypal. So many pesky checks seem to get lost in the mail when repaying money is involved.

Just wanted to give props to Disney guest services. We had to book and not much was available within our budget and this short of notice due to this situation. We settled on Pop, and guest services was sympathetic to our dilemma and gave us free dining even though we are there during the blackout dates for free dining. We are checking in friday and there for 6 days. They obviously had no obligation to make such a concession.
Still waiting on the refund check from the DVC member. It "shoud" arrive today.
Just wanted to share....thanks.

I'm so sorry! Hopefully it will arrive and I'm glad you were at least able to find a room.

Enjoy your vacation!!!

I agree. Disney is fairly "lenient" on past due. I don't think that right at 60 days they cancel everything for everyone.... It's not thier style. Plus when I changed my bank account with them they told me to "check" the verificaiton transaction so.........

Really, it's the email system's fault that the member didn't notice that for over two months his/her dues were not paid? :confused3

Hmm... I have a feeling that it's much more then 60 days as Disney tends to be generous here.....

And I would not be surprised if there had been more "personal" contact. Since Member Services did this I expect there was the old fashioned snail mail warning sent to the member to protect Disney from claims such as "you have the wrong email address etc"

I agree and that is why I suggested checking the Orange County Comptroller's website to see if there are any liens against the owner's contracts. This is something everyone should do before sending anyone money for a rented reservation. The information on that website pertains only to contracts within Orange County FL so if the owner owns only outside OC, FL (HHI or GVC for example) I don't know if similar information is available online.

In this case, it might provide the OP some insight as to whether the problem really was just in the past 60 days or has been going on much longer.

ETA: Here is the link in case the OP is interested: http://or.occompt.com/recorder/web/

Put the owners name in the "Grantee" box. Type in the last name and then the first name without a comma in between. For example for owner Donald Duck you would enter: duck donald

I'm so sorry that has happened to you. I'm glad you found out before you got there though. When we checked into BLT in June, the family next to us was trying to check in but the CM could not find a reservation. It turned out they had rented points from someone online but it had been a scam. Some very official looking men in suits came down and took them up to their offices to get more information. The man was angry and the poor woman was devistated. I felt so bad for them.

I am so very sorry this happen to you. Disney has stepped up to save your vacation and am happy to hear you are driving down and have a room. Free dining is a great savings.

DVC is complex when renting points. DVC won't talk directly to you. I asked the person who rented my points to place the call to MS with me on conference. I don't have that option on my phone. I trusted them to pull the phone away when I gave my contact info and I believe they did. Then I told MS I had the renter on the phone and would they please add the dining program. I then pulled the phone away so I would not hear their CC info. Again, this is all trust.

My renter wrote a nice letter saying they had a great trip. I had not rented before and I felt it was good experience.

I truly hope you get the check back. I like paypal as both parties are protected. If you paid with them you can now file a complaint for failure to perform and get your money back.

Have a magical vacation and so glad you are going to be at Disney!:goodvibes

Have you ever had to dispute something with Paypal, my experience with them was less than positive. Basically using Paypal makes it easier to pay but not necessarily safer.

Wow... people like this gives dvc points rental a bad name... ugh.
Sorry OP, I hope you've received your refund by now.
Have a wonderful trip!

Hey all, unfortunately this has turned into a scam of sorts by a dvc member from this forum. Mods indicated today I'm not alone. We are on day 2 of our trip here at wdw staying at Pop. Rain has made it tough, having neighbors ck the mail back home for a refund ck daily has made it tougher. Legal pursuits will begin Monday. If I thought stopping by a dvc info booth here would help I would do so. Surely they'd want to know a dvc member is scamming using their property...maybe not. Anyways, a shame I have to deal with while on our first disney trip, but it is what it is. I'll keep you posted as things progress.
Blessings, greyraven40

Believe me they don't want to know, and might actually really make you angry when they tell you that if you had booked with Disney you would not be having this problem. I would stay far away.

It truly is not a DVC problem.

This is awful! I'm sorry this has happened to you. And selfishly, it makes me nervous because I was planning to find someone to rent from on the Rent/Trade boards here.

If there are complaints about someone scamming people on those boards, will the moderators stop allowing them to post? I suppose it's not really their problem and the scammer could just come back under another name.

No way will the DIS allow a known scammer to continue using the Rent/Trade board. That said, the DIS is also not responsible for any deals that go bad. It is always "buyer beware" if you use the board to rent points.

I'm sorry this happened to the OP. I like to think that DVC owners are good people but I'm sure we have a cross section of good/bad people, just like the general population.

I know that you are upset and who wouldn't be, but don't let this situation ruin your well deserved vacation.

As renting increases in popularity there are going to be people who use it to commit a crime just like there will be owners who don't know what they are doing and they cause a reservation problem.

All you can do is try to put this behind you and don't fixate on getting even. Pursuing this legally can be a real challenge and expensive.

Good luck,

:earsboy: Bill
