does it matter which is your home resort when purchasing dvc points and does it matter which unit you are looking at in terms of studio, one, two and three bedroom. Do you get preference in your home resort anytime of the year?

Your home resort gives you a booking window privledge over owners of other home resorts. You can book 11 months from check out date at your home resort, but can't book non-home resorts until 7 months from your check out date. DVC is a point based timeshare, so it does not matter when or what size unit you want to book. You only need to have enough points to book it.

it matters if you are trying to book a room there between 7 and 11 months out.

it matters if you are concerned about the end date of your contract, at which point it will become worthless (2042, 2054 or 2057.)

it matters when you are figuring out how much points cost up front. (for example, VB is really cheap...you can get a stripped contract for as low as $60 per point.)

it matters when you are charged maintenance fees each year. (for example, VB is really expensive at over $6 per point per year.)

no, you buy pts (which represent a real estate interest in a specific unit) but are not tied to any specific unit in terms of usage.)

Do you get preference in your home resort anytime of the year?

no. at 7 months or less, any DVC owner can book at your home resort. between 7 and 11 months, only owners at that resort can beat you out for reservations.
