DVC Premier to Platinum AP renewal?

Hey all,

Apologies if this was already answered, but I cannot seem to find the answer I'm looking for.

I had an Premier AP (the one that gets you into both DL and WDW), that was originally set to expire in May 2020, and only just now expired on March 31, 2021.

I had previously purchased a DVC Platinum AP Renewal Certificate. This was my first time buying a DVC renewal.

I had expected that on 4/1/2021, my Premier AP would show expired (which it does!) and that my Platinum AP would become active. However, my Platinum AP is still showing as " DVC Member Platinum Pass - Renewal Certificate - Expires December 31, 2030" in my account, and I just got an email today from WDW telling me that I still had time to renew. Clicking on the renewal link brings me to a page that says I don't have any passes eligible to renew online, and shows both the expired Premier AP and the inactive Renewal Certificate.

Do I need to call to activate my renewal? Is it not automatic? Or does it not activate till the end of the 30 day renewal period?

If I have to call to renew, should I instead take advantage of the ability to buy a NEW AP Certificate to sit in my account, presuming they allow me to do so? My next trip isn't planned till November 2021 for Thanksgiving week, so I wouldn't mind pushing off my actual renewal till then.

Thanks!

Unless something has changed since I last heard...The Premier Pass is no more. You will need to go to the park to have your certificate activated.

Since you bought a DVC pass (so with a discount), you will have to activate it at the park and show your DVC card. I was also Premier so my pass also just expired and I renewed to the DVC Gold Pass. It shows in my MDE account, but is not yet activated as I have not been to Guest Services in a park yet to activate it. I could have done it in March when I was there, but I still have to go again in September for the other pass so figured might as well do both at that time.

Thank you!

Do I need to do that within 30 days of the expiration of the old one? Or can I activate it at any point, but it will be "backdated" to start when the old one ends?

Any time you go next, Basically, that certificate is the renewal. Once it is activated at the park by GS, then it will update the dates for the year, with the start date when the old one ended.

For the Premier AP, guests have been told that they can change to a WDW AP, buy it, and activate it within the next 12 months and it will be activated upon first entry. At least that's what a few of my Premier AP friends told me.

If Disney will let me buy a NEW WDW AP certificate, will I then be able to choose which certificate to activate when I go next (basically, activate my new certificate in November and save the renewal certificate for my next renewal)? If so, I may see if I can do that.

Since you have to do it at GS then I don't see why not. We bought our renewal in December of 2019 and did not activate it until September 2020. Our new expiration is September 2021. I would LOVE to get one more use out of it before we renew. But, we did go in SEptember, October, November, December of 2020 and March 2021.

Also, are you still considered an AP holder if you have a certificate on your account? Or is it only when your pass is active?

After a long hold on the AP line, I was not able to buy a NEW pass today (and I confess, I was hoping to be able to do so in case they didn't offer them for sale again before our trip in November, so that I could just use the renewal certificate for me and then reassign the new certificate for my husband, who sadly doesn't have an AP because we decided to wait to buy his and then they stopped selling them!), but they did note on mine to have its expiration date be 1 year from the day I activate it, so I essentially got a new one for the cost of a renewal, so I'm not going to complain too much.

Now to hope that they start selling APs again before November! We have 3 trips planned in November, December, and February, so we really need those APs. :)

If you bought an AP certificate then you are an AP holder. You can book AP discount resort with certificate. To get the other discounts, they usually ask for your card and id.
