DVC: Pop Century?

He said the hotel rooms were not as classy, and in the sense of the word he is using it correctly. You are reading into this.

Hence my advanced apology if I did take it the wrong way. :)

I do agree fully that the rooms 'as-is' are not appealing (imo anyway) and don't fit with the dvc level of decor and amenities.

What I would like to see is the Legendary Years area leveled and re-done as Legendary Years, but not in the over the top way the rest of Pop is decorated. I think that would be nice to the plans for the Legenday Years come to fruition.

It still doesn't make sense to me that Disney is building elsewhere (including the Contemporary and AKL dvcs) when they leave that part of Pop there unfinished like that.

What resort is next door to Pop Century??

I am a little lost here, but I think you are referring to the unfinished buildings hidden in the trees to the side of POP. It's not that easy to see through woods, but when you do it's hard NOT to look at them. It is a real mess.

and thats one of several reasons I wouldn't stay at POP again.

Otherwise the next closest resort is All Star - Sports I think. Home of drunken frat boys and high school cheerleaders being deflowered. *shudder*

Well, Carribean Beach is sort of next door.

The abandoned buildings are part of Pop Century. The other side of the lake was to be the years 00-40, called the "Legendary Years", but they stopped construction after 9/11 and have not announced a decision on what they will do.

I asked what was next door only because you can't see what's next door.

What I was getting at was a DVC could be built next door to Pop Century and after all the landscaping is done neither one would be seen by the other.

Which could render a whole new meaning of "studio trash"

OK, so if they did a DVC at Pop I'd imagine many people would join if they had a lower buy in price, like what was mentioned on the first page of this thread.

Sooo, they use their points to stay at the other DVC resorts instead of at Pop cause they really only bought Pop cause they were able to buy into DVC at a lower price.

Now, think about the current situation with SSR being so huge and having so many members who bought SSR, but stay at the other DVC resorts. Now if you call after the 7 months out window you're likely to find SSR as your only option.

Now think about a DVC Pop. Imagine calling to find out all that is available is Pop. I personally would be extremely upset. When you buy into DVC you expect deluxe accommodations. Pop is not deluxe, even if they do make studios, one bedrooms and two bedrooms.

And 3 points a night? I think that is extremely generous given some nights at AKV and OKW are 8 points.

I guess it would make a good place to stay for your night of arrival before switching over??? :confused3

i just returned from a 2 week stay at WDW. while waiting for my son at MGM i decided to strike up a conversation with the DVC salesman. he asked me if i was interested and i told him i was already a member at SSR and he replied he was also.

so i asked him about AKV and the progress in sales at SSR. how much is still available etec. well the conversation was interesting. i remarked to him was that how could you really expect to seel out the inventory at SSR with the now sales push for AKV. i remarked to him that i am sure there are a certain number of rooms that arent sold but still with the sales proceeding with AKV and the "worlds worst kept secret" the building at the Contemporary, dont you think that DVC is shooting themselves in the foot by offereng too many options. he looked at me and smiled when i mentioned the contemporary and i told him that if he looked on the Dis he could possibly even find the plans for the building and that an artists conception of how the building is going to look like and how the construction progress is also going.

i told him i am sure he isnt allowed to answer me and his asnwer of thank you for understanding was taken by me to mean that i was right.

i know this is a round about was of getting to my point. at no time was there ever any mention of a dvc resort being built at POP. although he did ask me if i am a golfer. so maybe that is where the next dvc resort will be by one of the courses. i wantedto ask more of him but he did have a potential customer so i thanked him and left him to his business

DVC at Pop, dumb idea. Family suites....yes!!!

As a weekend stop-over to save some of my DVC points I might go to POP if they opened as family suites.

My last one night stay at All Star Movies included the smell of marijuana wafting through the building in which I was staying. I would never choose to stay in a value again unless it was truly necessary.

Disney would be foolish to open at POP, and I thnk that whoever started this rumor was probably the source of the smoke that I smelled at The All Star!

I'm sorry you feel the need to bash me like that, you're probably one of the DVC members who thinks they are better then myself and others who aren't DVC members. At this point Disney has lost me as a potential buyer.

I could afford to stay at a deluxe resort, but choose to visit 5-7 times a year and stay at values because I spend all my time in the parks.

I'm staying at Boardwalk Villas for 1 night in August (gift from a friend) and a week with my friend (who is a DVC owner there) in November. I'll get to "experience" a DVC resort, and I know on my 1 night in August I'm just there to sleep, I'll be in the parks as soon as I check in until 1am, and then from 8am-until DME pick up. My trip in November will most likely be the same. I don't go to Disney to hang out at the pool, I go for the parks, the atmosphere, and the food.

As for points, Disney would probably charge the same for them, but would allow you to buy fewer, as you would need fewer a night.

I was just posting what I had heard from several cast members

Now feel free to flame me some more if you feel I'm that bad of a Disney guest.

Sorry for the misunderstanding... :guilty:

When I was referring to the one who started the rumor, I meant whomever you may had heard it from, not, you, the OP (original poster). The idea seems highly unlikely, and I was just trying to make light of the drug situation that I had encountered while at the value resorts.

We stayed (just the 2 of us PV, not the whole family) at the Pop in the Fall of '06 and liked it.

I doubt that they would make DVC here. If they did, it would be safe to assume that it would be drastically different than the other side in terms of ammenties and space... otherwise you would see the DVC values tank and Disney definately wants to protect that money maker.

It could be $100 and I still wouldn't buy DVC.
I have stayed in all the resorts during the past 14 years a total of 232 days!
Yes I'm a Disney nut. I have been to Hilton Head, Vero Beach and would consider a nicer room there ok as you spend more time in the room.
As for WDW IMO I consider the DVC a waste of my money. Like I said before I have already experienced the Deluxe resorts including Old Key West.
I'm at a point now that I also don't spend enought time in my room to justify the extra dolllars or the purchase of a room that I don't own.
1. I can't and won't pay maintaince fees for the rest of my life.
2. Don't need a kitchen I'm not cooking when on vacation.
3. Don't need a washer and dryer . I take enogh clothes for 2 weeks.
I'm not on vacation to do a wash.
4. I only need a clean cheap room to sleep in no frills. I'll spend my extra dollars on fun things and restaurants
I enjoy the POP as long as they keep it up.
$16,000 ,not including maintaince will at current prices buy me 160 nights at the POP. I'm happy!
Gosh, last time I stayed at the Beach Club my matress had a piece of plywood under it, as it was so old.

Ummm....since the Beach Club is not the same as DVC at the Beach Club...that comment proves how totally clueless you are. Just go away.

They already have 2 DVC Resorts by a Golf Course, SSR and OKW.

My guess is that since they are trying the Family Suites at the All-Stars that maybe they will make those 2 buildings all Family Suites. They seem to be making a pretty big hit at the All Stars.

They are tearing down the 2 building and the main hall, as building codes have changed so much, that it's cheaper for them to just start all over then to retrofit them with the upgrades.
