dvc points why dont they rent

I have been trying to work out what to book for next year but I keep adding it up and am all ways points short i do not what to buy more points when this year I need them and next I don’t I know I can buy them on the rent trade board but this seams a lot of hassle surely Disney are missing out as say I am 3 points short for one day I don’t book this day Disney don’t get my ticket booked for that day also the meal that I would have bout times for people plus spending money i.e. ex present snacks drinks buy not allowing me to buy extra points they are missing out they could buy the point that people don’t need take it of the dues i.e. pay the sale 10 dollars a point and sale them for 15 dollars a point I am sure people would pay that two have a extra day or two

I'd imagine if you wanted to rent a transfer at $15 a point, you'd find a taker (when many renters only get $10-12/point)

1st, You can buy one day cash to add to your reservation. You just cannot split one day on cash and points.

2nd DVC would probably rather you overbuy than underbuy thinking you might be able to rent from them additional points when needed

Points going to "waste" somewhat benefits the system. I think it leads to a very slight increase in availability, and gives MS the flexibility needed in some hurricane/medical emergency/incorrect points banking type issues to do the "right thing." If all points always got used by owners, there would always be absolute 100% occupancy year round, and MS would have no "wiggle room" to ever help anyone.

Disney owns a certain percentage of points at every resort, and they receive more to use every year due to member trade-outs. They use these points to take units out of use for repair and maintenance, but they may also "rent" them. They do this through CRO and if you want to "rent" from Disney, then make a cash reservation. Disney has no incentive to simply "rent" individual points to members. As a previous poster mentioned, the system was designed for members to "waste" points regularly; without this "waste," all resorts would be 100% booked 365 days every year.

And as for Disney missing out on all the money you would be spending for that one day, just look at how much they charge for DVC villas through CRO and you will see that they are not worried about your money. They get more from this reservation than they got from you when you bought points AND the person paying for the villa will spend money in the parks and restaurants just like you would have done! Win-win for them; lose-lose for you!

Don't rule out finding a member to transfer points you are short even if it is a small amount. Booking a night or two cash at the beginning or end of your stay can free up points; also 25% member discount for cash nights at DVC resorts could possibly be available, ask MS when you call to reserve.
