DVC points transferred to RCI

My husband and I are not current DVC members but are in the final stages of making that decision. I was excited to see that we could possibly use our points with other resorts other than Disney. We love Disney but like to know we have the option. We love to travel to different destinations but always seem to come back to Disney. However, after reviewing RCI’s list of facilities, I’m not quite sure I would want to transfer any points over and use them with RCI. Two questions:

1) Does RCI have any cruises that you can use your points for I only saw lodging
2) Have you used your Disney points for RCI accommodations that you were really happy with?

The MS rep that I spoke with said that once we transfer our points to RCI we can hold them there for two years. He said that could be an option to do with points that we may be close to losing through DVC. But again, not sure by the looks of a few that I looked at that we would want to do this.

Please let me know what your experiences have been.

If you don't plan to use your points mostly for DVC stays, you need to find another timeshare property to purchase. DVC is too expensive to trade out and you can purchase other time shares to do your trading much more cheaply.

The DCL trades are negotiated yearly and have gone up in the past years. We used points in 2000 for a four night cruise and used all our points for two years. We don't have enough points to do that anymore, plus it is really cheaper to pay cash than to use points.

RCI is the current company to trade with and there are not a lot of trades that are equivalent to DVC.

An occasional trade, yes. Regularly trading, no, not with DVC.

Buying points to use to trade is an extremely poor choice. Far better and cheaper to buy less DVC points and look at other means for non DVC trips. Few RCI exchanges are equal to DVC and even when they are, there are risks and significant negatives. Cash type exchanges (DCL, etc) generally yield barely more than the maint fees on those points, sometimes less.
