By the way, ignore any private messages you get offering you a reservation to rent. It's a way unsuspecting renters get scammed.

do you have any recommendations to avoid scammers for people who want to rent, can you ask for references

You can always ask for references,,,or look at the persons history,,,the boards have not been a place for too many scams,,the mods are great over there and do a great job looking over who is posting. That said it still comes down to trust and gut,,,even having a contract that most have,,trying to get that enforced after would be real tough.
Best of luck and if still in doubt then maybe just going direct with DIsney is the best for you and your family.
