DVC Points for DCL

Now I'm nervous--if you prepay your tips, will the staff know so they don't feel stiffed the last night? Do they find out beforehand? If you don't go to the dining room the last night (and prepay) is it a problem? Ack. (First cruise here.)

If you prepay your tips, I believe you get a slip of paper each each person to put in their tip envelope. I don't know when they find out, but I'm sure there is no problem missing the final dinner - they will get the money. If you go to breakfast before leaving the ship the last day, that is another opportunity to give them the tip envelope. Or maybe you could request the envelopes early from guest services - not sure about that.

IMO, this is a very poor use of our DVC points. Paying cash is a better value. DVC should be used for DVC, IMO. that is where the value is.

We have friends who bought into DVC, then added on. I don't totally understand why they bothered because the wife doesn't really care for Disney. They don't have children (she is late 50's he is early 60's). They stayed at Saratoga for 5 days in 2008, and at AKL for 5 days last December. They had so many points built up, no desire to go to Disney World, so they are taking a 7 day cruise in November. We have never cruised before, so hate to think of using up so many of our points on something we aren't sure we would enjoy. But then, we also love going to WDW. We have been taking a big family trip every year for several years, then the last couple years DH and I have gone down just the 2 of us. He likes going to the Children's Miracle Network Golf Tourny, and this year it falls during Food & Wine :thumbsup2. Last year we went down for the golf, then back in Dec (with our friends mentioned above) to enjoy the Christmas decorations. During that trip they decided to go to the Candlelight Processional, and afterwards said something along the lines of it would probably be 3 or 4 years before they would be back at Disney.

They plan to trade out and go other places, but so far they haven't, and finally decided to use up a bunch of points on the cruise so the wouldn't lose them. I hope they get smarter about how to use their points (not that the cruise isn't a good use - if that's what you like - but being so close to losing the points isn't good!) I keep telling DH that anytime they are afraid they are going to lose some "offer" to accept a donation :rolleyes1

My family is cruising twice next year on the Dream...First, just my Husband and I on April 17th 4 day cruise in a cat 5A and then a Cruise with the famly in June. Both cruises are on points. We don't care if its a good value or not. All we care about is creating lasting memories for our family and spending time together as a couple. We work all year to afford our DVC and use it how ever and whenever we want. That's the beauty of DVC..Frankly, my husband and I could not come up with that type of cash to pay out of pocket for 1 cruise...let alone 2. ;) Then in 2012, we are planning on 2 weeks at OKW in a 2 bedroom with the family. But like everything else in life....everyone is different and we all have opinions on what is right for our particular situation.

Here's wishing you a Wonderful cruise,
If you are on the April 17th cruise, maybe we'll see you!:goodvibes
