Am I allowed to transfer my points to another member?
Yes, but you may not sell your points for transfer.

How many transfers out to a 3rd party per year?
1 transfer in or out, but not both, per use year

How many transfers in from a 3rd party per year?
1 transfer in or out, but not both per use year

Are transfer rules per contract, per membership or per member?
Per membership

Can transferred points be banked?
Yes

Can you transfer banked points?
Yes (new as of 12/2024)

Can you transfer points in holding?
Yes (new as of 12/2024)

Can you transfer borrowed points?
Yes (new as of 12/2024)

Can one time use points bought from Disney be transferred in/out?
No

Do transferred points hold their 11 month priority or are they good only at 7 months?
They hold their 11 month priority only at their original resort.

Can I transfer points from one of my own memberships to my other membership?
Yes, just be sure remember its memberships not contracts. Contracts with the same use year carry the same membership number.

Can I transfer more than once per use year between my own memberships?
Used to be usually yes, but there are more and more recent reports of Disney now sticking to only allowing once per year even within your own memberships.

There is a very handy website that has a great graphic and spells out some of the rules regarding transfers between members.
https://www.dvcfieldguide.com/blog/transferring-points-between-members

If you would like to read the rules directly from the mouse himself, you can find the rules and regulations by following the instructions below.

Section II(6) of the Home Resort Rules and Regulations, the latest version of which can be found by going to the member's DVC site, disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com, and after signing in, open My DVC on the top right -- do not click on it just put the mouse arrow over My DVC -- then click on Membership Documents shown in the left hand column, and then on the page that opens click on Home Resort Rules and Regulations

Is there a thread here, a blog or a forum where all the DVC point use rules are listed in an easy to read format? I know I can delve into the DVC terms but I really don’t want to. If this doesn’t exist I am happy to edit the rules into the top post of this thread so it’s easily accessible. Types of things I am referencing are…

- How many transfers in from a 3rd party per year?
- How many transfers out to a 3rd party per year?
- Are transfer rules per contract, per membership or per member?
- Can transferred points be banked?
- Can you transfer banked points?
- Can you transfer points in holding?
- Can you transfer borrowed points?
- Can one time use points bought from Disney be transferred in/out?
- Do transferred points hold their 11 month priority or are they good only at 7 months?

I’m sure there other rules I’m not aware of. Please feel free to share anything pertinent.
I looked into this recently, so I think these are right, but someone else can double check me!

- How many transfers in from a 3rd party per year?
- How many transfers out to a 3rd party per year?
1 (in or out, can do one but not both) per use year

- Are transfer rules per contract, per membership or per member?
Per membership I believe

- Can transferred points be banked?
yes! (after they are transferred)

- Can you transfer banked points?
no

- Can you transfer points in holding?
no

- Can you transfer borrowed points?
no

- Can one time use points bought from Disney be transferred in/out?
no

- Do transferred points hold their 11 month priority or are they good only at 7 months?
yes, they retain their original home priority and use year.

I transferred banked points from one of my memberships to another this year. Apparently this might be new?
They will often waive some of the rules (like the once per year limit) if you are transferring between your own memberships. Perhaps that is why they allowed it because they typically have not.

Two additional points:

You can transfer out your current UY and the following UYs points. For example, I can transfer my Dec 2024 and 2025 UY points today to someone else.

UY of the points being transferred is defines which UY they cont against for the owner who receives them. For example, if I get Feb 2025 UY points transferred into my Dec UY today, it counts as my 2025 UY transfer, even though I am receiving them in my 2024 UY.

Adding:

Any given membership will have only one use year for all the contracts in it. You can do only one transfer per use year, but you can actually do two transfers about the same time, because you are allowed to do a transfer in the use year you are currently in and a transfer in your next use year.

You can cannot transfer banked or borrowed points. You can bank points received after transfer but not borrow them.

The exception to the single transfer per membership rule is when a DVC member has two separate memberships (which happens if the purchases are for different months starting the use year, e.g., if you buy a June use year contract and a Dec use year contract, you will have two separate memberships). DVC generally allows multiple transfers by a member between his own memberships., i.e., the one transfer per use year is not applied in that situation.

Transferred points always retain their own original resort identity, use year, and date by which you need to bank the points. They apply at 11-months out only to their identified resort, e.g., if you own VGF and have transferred in Poly points, you cannot mix them together to reserve VGF 11-months out.

The transfer limit to 1 rule only applies to 3rd party transfer - not between your own memberships…

Adding one more point since transfers often involve payment for the transferred points. Section II(6)(J) of The Home Resort Rules and Regulations states the following: "Club Members are expressly prohibited from receiving compensation for engaging in any Transfer activity."

In other words, every transfer that any member has ever done for money is seemingly illegal. Historically, DVC has not done anything to enforce that rule against any member who transfers points for money. That rule is designed to be consistent with other provisions in the POS, which state that points themselves have no monetary value but instead are just symbols for the thing that has value -- the member's legal ownership interest in a DVC Resort. In other words, one cannot sell points because they are legally deemed to have no monetary value. What one can sell or rent is the temporary use of the ownership interest. If you do any transfer of points for money, be aware that, if anything goes wrong in the transaction, you cannot seek DVC's aid in rectifying the situation. Also, one thing we may see in the future, as a result of DVC's stating that it is looking into the rental issues involving members who do large numbers of rentals, is that DVC may find that many of those renters are using many transferred points and it may start actually enforcing the rule that transfers cannot be done for compensation, e.g., it could adopt a rule that requires the two members involved in any transfer to confirm that no payment for the transfer is being made. Moreover, section II(6)(l) of those Home Resort rules adds: "DVC Operator may prohibit a Transfer, not permit a reservation to be made (or cancel a reservation already made) with Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points, or suspend or terminate a Club Member’s right to Transfer if DVC Operator determines, in its discretion, that the Transfer activity is for commercial purposes."

So I have 3 different membership ids that I’m on (2 different use years and one that has additional owner). I have points left on one of my contracts I won’t be able bank so normally would use that to book a few nights at 7 months and would use my sap contract to book rest of my trip at 7 months as well. The ideal scenario would be to use the exact number of points for few nights with the one contract and the main sap points one for rest to avoid using the more valuable points I like to use for home resort advantage.

Obviously this is mathematically hard and this thread made me think maybe I could transfer the extra points to the sap contract. Would that let me combine the points from both contracts at 7 months then to book a single stay with the transfer points plus remainder sap points?

If the SAP contract is in a different membership from the other contract, yes, you can do that. Transfers are from one membership to another, not from one contract to another. If I understand your ownerships correctly, transferring would work for you.

Interesting. I bet hardly anyone reads the fine print.

I updated the main post with all the rules. Thanks everyone!! If there's anything else that is important to add let me know and I will add it in.

There might be one more…accepting a transfer of points from a UY that you are no longer in.

For example, if you have started your March 2025 UY, you can not accept any 2024 UY points from another member because your 2024 UY has ended.

I’ll see if I can get an answer to that.

You might also want to point out that DVC provides its rules applicable to transfers in section II(6) of the Home Resort Rules and Regulations, the latest version of which can be found by going to the member's DVC site, disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com, and after signing in, open My DVC on the top right -- do not click on it just put the mouse arrow over My DVC -- then click on Membership Documents shown in the left hand column, and then on the page that opens click on Home Resort Rules and Regulations

Great idea! Done :)

Hello point geniuses!

If I’m understanding these previous posts I think I made a whoopsie. My MIL owns direct points, I resale. She graciously booked a stay for me and a friend at the Disneyland hotel on her contract, as I had enough points to cover this that I hoped to transfer to her (she only ever vacations in WDW)

My points were going to expire prior to when she planned to travel next so I banked them. It now seems that was not the best approach, as I can’t transfer these banked points to her correct?

Sigh- I feel bad that I’ve complicated this for her. But sounds like this will need to be an iou?
