It's my understanding that point requirements for resort stays will not increase. And when comparing point charts for the same resort but for different years, I have not found any differences.

So why are new point charts released every year? What am I missing?

The total points for the entire resort can not change. However, they have the right to adjust things on the chart.

So, they can raise the cost of one room but would have to lower the cost of another.

Or, they could move things around in the seasons, etc. So, if they feel they need to make adjustments, they do and then release the new charts.

There have now been 4 years that point reallocations have occurred. In addition seasons move slightly based on when holidays occur. For example look at the Easter holiday which can be in March or April and you will see adjustments in point charts because of that.

go back and look at SSR and BLT from 2012 to 2013. you will see some changes. Points charts go on the premise that Points usage can't increase or decrease over a year. If every room at a certain level (studio, one bedroom, etc) was booked for 365 nights, it would X number of points. That HAS to stay the same from year to year. So if you were to buy in now, it's not like in 20 years your points would be too low to do anything with. That would make the program worthless.

What they CAN do is change the points around in the year. So right now adventure season is the lowest. If they raised adventure season a few points per night, they would have to lower it over the other seasons, or just one season. It's a way for them to help raise or lower demand for different times of year. Not as many people travel in January, so the points are lower for the same room to try to entice people to go during that time.

SSR Treehouse villas used to be the same points as a 2 br. The THV were very popular and always booked up. They raised the points to get a THV, and in return, the points for a 2 br came down. So the points over the WHOLE chart must stay the same from year to year, but they can up and down in different areas. They call this reallocation. It has happened twice before I believe. It can affect how far your points will go if you are stuck traveling at specific times.

BLT recently reallocated 10 rooms from MK view to SV, thus lowering the points requirements to book those rooms. In return, they had to add points to various other rooms throughout the year to account for those "missing points" due to the View change lowering the points. Hope I clarified it for you.

They also have to release a chart for each year because of the dates of holidays. Easter and Thanksgiving are NOT the same days every year, but their points requirements every year cost more, so they have to make sure the dates line up with the points usage.

Also, Disney has an obligation to ensure points reflect actual usage, unlike a hotel that typically has a more varied occupancy, the purpose of a timeshare is to keep a fairly stable stream of occupancy all year long, using almost 100% of the capacity of the resort.
