Why are Animal Kingdom, Old Key West and Boardwalk Villa the least expensive on the points chart?

I was looking at villas and these would be the best value when renting points.

Any idea why that is? And if you could choose between these three resorts which would you choose any why?

We have previously stayed at Bay Lake Towers, Beach Club Villas and Port Orleans.

We are traveling with 2 boy's ages 5 and 7.

Thanks

If you are looking at the standard view points at AKV and BWV, be aware that there are only a few of those rooms. Most of the availability is in the higher points views. OKW is the oldest DVC resort.

OKW is the oldest DVC resort.

To clarify for the OP...OKW is the first DVC resort, DVC point charts do not get cheaper as a resort ages. (though that would be nice ;) ) The point totals for the resort are when they begin sales.

OKW was sort of a test case for Disney. Disney didn't know if a timeshare concept would mesh well with the Disney brand. No one could predict that DVC would be as popular as it eventually became. We early purchasers at OKW were warned that the resort may never be completed to original plans, and that Disney may not remain the managing entity. OKW could have become simply another Marriott or Fairfield timeshare, with a better than average location.

If Disney knew then what they know now, OKW would have has a very different point structure.

Savanna view point cost is 80% of the rooms at AKL, BWV preferred view is more than 80% of the rooms at BWV. The points for those are in the range of BCV and VWL (and AKV is actually a bit higher). Thus, they really don't have lower point cost except for a smaller group of rooms. The AKL value rooms (studios) are smaller than the hotel rooms at Port Orleans and thus have a low point cost significantly because of that. The standard views are standard views although none are actually bad. Those lower point cost rooms can often be hard to get at 7 months out and thus to assure getting them without risk at 11 months out you need to own at the particular resort.

We own at BWV and AKL and both are our choice over any others. However, we always get preferred boardwalk view at BWV and savanna view at AKL because we want the views so I cannot speak to preferences among resorts if what you are doing is going for standard or value.

Curious as to the % off rooms at Bay Lake Tower that are standard view? That is a pretty low point cost category, as well.
