We have a regular room res for Contemporary for 7 nts in late October, but we'd like to see if we can get a 1 BR Villa at VWL for the same dates. I'm thinking that if Disney releases a package similar to the 4/3 deal, maybe we'll spring for the villa. Of course, I won't know this until later in the spring. A couple of questions:

1) Would we have to wait until 7 mo out to reserve a DVC villa at the W Lodge or could we double book a res now anticipating that Disney would release a deal later in the spring?
2) Would I be stupid not to pursue a DVC rental as opposed to booking directly with Disney? Seems like a huge price discrepancy to book a villa direct with Disney vs. a rental (even with the potential risks).

Love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!:)

If the owner's points are VWL it can be booked now.

If the points are tied to any other DVC resort a points reservation cannot
be made at VWL until 7 month booking window opens.

An owner using their points to make a reservation for you gives them complete control of that reservation until you check-in. Know and understand all the details of rentall vs booking through CRO.

Not sure I'm entirely understanding your double book question - think you mean rent a reservation from a DVC owner NOW AND CRO reservation ? if so, jmho but I don't think you are going to be successful finding an owner who will tie up their points booking for you with you possibly intending to cancel if a better cash deal comes along .... they will not want to be left "holding the points" so to speak on a cancellation and most owners are not lenient with their cancellation policy if they allow a renter to cancel at all.

Again, not saying its impossible to work with someone in this scenario but not very likely at all

Good luck :goodvibes

If you're thinking that you're going to get one of the discount packages when you rent points, that's not the case. DVC point reservations are eligible for the dining plan (at its regular price), but DVC exists outside of the Disney reservation system. Point reservations are not eligible for the 4/3 deal, free dining, any of that stuff. In order to get those packages, you have to book directly with Disney.
