I am very excited about the segmented dining plan. We had the deluxe dining plan for 7 days and felt it was far too much food. We had the regular dining plan and missed out on a signature dining experience we'd like.

For our 7 day trip, I was thinking of doing 3 days DDP, and 2 days DxDP.

What's your experience with past vacations or future planned trips? What do you personally feel is the best use of the plans for your family?

Just interested in hearing about options as I plan for the future!

We're checking out tomorrow from a 5 nights stay at BWV. Did first night DDxP, then 4 nights DDP. Did not have to check back in, used the same key for all days. We had some DDxP snack credits that carried over to the 3rd day even though we forgot to use them by midnight of the 2nd day. The second day, they pulled DDP credits instead of DDxP credits by mistake, so the DDxP credits carried over too!

The only thing that got messed up wash trach and towel day. The count the days in each segment, our t&t was scheduled for day 5, not days 4 since it was the 4th days of our second segment.

PP, glad to hear about not having to check-in.

OP, we did DDP last year and we felt that we had too much food. We will do DDxP for 1 night of our 7 night stay this time. Our toddler doesn't stay seated on table so DH and I take turns in eating our meal while the other looks after him. This is why we havn't done any Signature dining to date.

Whats the Segmented Dining plan, and where I can I find more information on it?

You can call or email MS and ask for parts of your trip to be segmented in to groups of days. I emailed my request, remember to include member number, reservation number and how you want your reservation segmented. Our trip is a split stay and I wanted the 1st day of our second resort segmented because I want to add DxDDP for just that day. So my reservation now looks like 4 nights at BCV, 1 night AKV and 2 night AKV. Now I can call back to MS and add DxDDP to the one night at AKV. If I would have chosen a day in the middle of my stay I would have to go down and get new room keys with the dining plan on it, because it is at the beginning of our stay at AKV I will just check in and get my new room keys and have the dining plan on it. I won't have to change rooms at AKV, and they don't have to rebook the reservation just segment it.

When did this start, the segmented dining plan for DVC?

If I have a reservation for one day, I can use the 1 day dining plan the day I check in (say Friday) and all the way until midnight on check out (Saturday)? Same principle with segmenting a DVC stay like one above?

When did this start, the segmented dining plan for DVC?

I am interested in this information as well :thumbsup2

Would it work if we did the regular DDP, then on the last day go down to the the one with just the counter service? Also, would we get the mug on the last day as well?
:confused3

These changes were part of system enhancements rolled out in the fall of 2010. DVC hasn't gone out of its way to publicize them but the ability has been discussed on DVC sites/forums.

Basically they can split any trip into multiple segments with each segment having different dining options tied to it. All of the segments are still linked to a single master reservation so there is no need to check in multiple times, just one set of room keys, etc.

Biggest thing to be aware of is that credits are supposed to be tied to the nights for which you buy them. If you buy the Deluxe Dining Plan for a Monday night, you only have Monday and Tuesday to use the credits. Looks like another poster said some of the credits carried over but I wouldn't bet on that always happening--technically it shouldn't.

If you want to attach different dining plans to portions of the stay, it is best to mention this when the reservation is first secured. Member Services needs to establish those individual segments in their computer system. If you are holding a 7 night reservation and want to purchase one dining plan for the first 3 nights and another dining plan for the other 4, they effectively need to CANCEL the entire reservation and re-book accordingly. Some MS reps will tell you that there is a chance of the room being lost while the cancellation/rebooking is happening. Personally I think the odds are pretty remote and apparently they can get a manager involved to further minimize the risk.

But again, if you know you want different dining plans for those 3/4 nights, tell the MS rep right when you book and they can create the separate segments right away.

Can't help you with the mug question. The mug is only part of the quick service dining plan so if you don't have that until the last day of the trip...

Awesome! thank you so much. As far as the mug, I am ok getting it on the last day :rotfl2:. Besides we will be leaving the next day for the cruise and I can use it then. Well not actually use it, but I can collect a drink with the provided cups and pour into my new mug that is.. :thumbsup2;)

The deluxe dining plan has a mug and counter service dining plan has a mug. Regular dining plan does not have mugs. So, you would get it the day before checkout...kinda late....

Book counter service for your first night...

Now that sounds like a plan. :goodvibes I do not know why I was not considering the first night. DUH!!! on my part. I do want 2 days of reg dining and, the third day we can settle for the counter service.

Thanks,:thumbsup2

I was thinking of getting the DxDP for two nights. I'd have it for 3 full days then, correct? I could use 2 meals per day. Sounds awesome! Very excited for the opportunitty to try this. Glad to hear you don't have to check out!

Glad to hear you got trash and towel day. We were there for 8 days and never had trash and towel day. We also had a segmented dining plan.

We did have to change cards and had a problem several times. We were told they had no record of our dining plan.
