Just a bit of info I thought might be of interest to some. We are just back from 5 days at OKW. We drove over to the Polynesian one morning to have breakfst at the Kona Kafe and while we were expecting to get a 3 hour parking pass, as DVC members the guard said we were entitled to an all day parking pass!! What was a nice surprise! We hadn't intended to park there for any length of time, but since we had an all day pass we decided to go to MK for a few hours and just take the monorail. This was an unexpected perk.:)

I wonder if we can park all day at the Contemporary and/or other resorts?

Interesting! We were only given 2-3 hour passes at any of the resorts when we stayed at OKW in January.

That's all we got too in November, Diane. I was really surprised, but it seemed that more of the security guards were noticing "Member Parking Permit" on the top of our parking pass in the car window when we went through the different guard booths and we didn't even have to show any photo ID or resort ID either. Both in November and January we had to show a photo ID at all of the guard booths.

dvc_bwv:

Did you actually get a paper pass that allowed all day parking rather than three hours? We will be at OKW in June and if they are allowing DVC members to park at the Poly, we may do that on the day we visit MK. Thanks for the info.

I would urge people to be discreet and not abuse this privilege. I'm sure there intent is not to let DVC'ers use the monorail resorts as their own parking lots for MK. If this policy exists, it will go away very quickly if abused, IMHO.

Doctor P... I tend to agree with you. I think the all day parking pass was for those who intended to spend the day at the Poly, maybe eating and swimming.

I certainly do not want to turn this into a debate and I respect the right of those who disagree, but as a BWV owner I have often found the parking lot of my home resort filled with cars belonging to people not staying at BW. On the other hand, when I have parked at the Poly in years past (prior to the three hour rule) I never saw the Poly parking lot more than one- third full. Thus if WDW, in their infinite wisdom, have decided to allow DVC members to park at the monorail resorts on an unrestricted basis, I think it's a good thing and will not cause any harm to the guests at the monorail resorts. I know there are those on these boards who agree with me and others who disagree, but this is how I feel.

When we went to the Poly we told the guard we were going to Kona for breakfast, but when he saw that we were DVC members he reached right inside the door of the building and brought out one of their blue parking passes marked "all day" and said as DVC members we were entitled to all day parking as opposed to 3 hour. He didn't have to write on the pass, it was already written up as "all day." Ususally when they give you a 3 hour pass they actually have to mark the time on it and he didn't do that.

I don't think anyone would abuse it, but it is nice to know that they are recognizing DVC members more.

An addition to my post...the day we got the "all day" pass was on Monday, but my DH just reminded me that when we went to the Poly on Friday we were given a 3 hour parking pass. It was a different guard both days, but maybe it has something to do with the day of the week. Perhaps on the weekends they still give 3 hour passes and all day during the week.

I find it interesting also. We were there 2 weeks ago. Had to show license and ID at GF, Beach Club, and AKL. Disney DVC member parking sign had no effect whatsoever.
Now I will say that once we passed muster at security, we were not given ANY sort of time limit pass--we were waived right in. My guess is that it was because none of the lots were very full.
I imagine you just had an overly friendly guard. If this were to be a routine DVC 'perk" i think Member Services would say something official.

I agree that it is probably up to the guard and the condition of the lot that day. When I was there 2 weeks ago, I parked at BWV 3 times and only on the last day (Friday) was I asked for photo ID.

I used to park at the Poly and go to MK, but when they started the 3 hour pass last year, I started parking at the TTC. Probably only adds 5 or 10 minutes to your commute. Not worth worrying about.

I agree, we go to different resorts during our stay and sometimes we have to show ID and other times we're just waved in. I've never stayed for any lenght of time (usually to look around or eat). I would love to be able to park at the MK resorts and hop on the Monorail. We'll see on our next visit 10/2002.

We too got the all day pass last week when going to the Kona for breakfast. Let me make a clarification of what the guard told us. "We usually give a 3 hour pass, but, because we are NOT VERY BUSY THIS WEEK we are giving the all day pass to DVC members"
