Question to DVC owners in the Central Florida area who moved there after becoming DVC owners...

Did any of ya'll change/ adjust how you use your DVC points after moving? For instance, I'm curious if some owners used their points on mostly villas as an out-of-state member, but now use their points primarily on deluxe studios as a resident of Florida. Or did some owners find that they don't vacation to WDW for a week, but maybe multiple weekends?

My wife and I own 150 points at CCV. We're considering a move to Central Florida (Davenport? Clermont?) and we're unsure if the "I need a kitchen (villa)" crowd changes their opinion as a local vs out-of-state vacationer. Feedback from other owners would help us evaluate our likelihood on if we buy more points, and/or how many points we might add.

Bonus Question: Did any of you guys & gals own resale (plus restrictions) prior to moving to Central Florida, and then decided to add-on direct? From my perspective, the direct perks seem a bit more attractive out-of-state vs FL resident.

We are resale owners who live a little less than an hour away (on a good traffic day).
We were resale owners before we moved and just added another 100 resale points.

We rarely used our points to stay in larger rooms because it is just the 2 of us but we used to stay for a week at a time in a studio, from Saturday to Saturday but now use them to do 1 or 2 night stays at a time. Once in a while a random cheap boardwalk or beach club night will pop up for a random day a month out and we grab it.

Bonus answer- we don’t have a real desire to add direct for perks but we are considering adding on direct at the fort wilderness cabins (pending buy in costs and point charts) so we can bring our dog along. It would be great to qualify for MM and be able to use the Epcot lounge but those would just be a bonus if the math makes sense.

We only use it with our adult kids (so far) and it has changed in that we will get a better room at a better (higher point) resort for few less nights and then spend a few nights at our nearby home.

Not that it was part of your main question, but I would lean towards Clermont over Davenport for a full time residence, Davenport seems to have more traffic and more vacationers.

I live about 90 minutes away (on average) and bought DVC AFTER moving and had a ton of questions to figure out if it was worth it as a "local". It's usually just me, so booking studios but I have to say I love having the ability to stay over. I keep thinking about a direct add-on, especially with the latest Magical Beginnings promo, but agree that most of the value seems to be for non-FL residents since I get the pass & discounts already. It's great having the flexibility to travel last minute or whenever a room is available, sometimes swooping in as others cancel at the 1-month out mark. Good luck!

We owned direct (since 2003) and resale before moving to Central Florida 3 years ago. We also recently added another resale. We definitely have changed our habits. We still have a longer stay when our (now adult) children and grandchild visit but we now also will go several times a year for 1 night. We are about 90 minutes away so will drive there early on day 1 and go straight to a park, stay overnight in a studio or 1 BR and then drive home after visiting a park the next day. These extra 2 day trips are what prompted us to do the most recent add-on.
