DVC owners with toddlers during Covid

I was hoping to get some insight on what fellow DVC owners with small toddlers are doing regarding planning their trips during COVID.

i have an 18 month old and really have not wanted to bring him to Disney during COVID. My husband and I are taking a week long trip to Disney in May and are leaving our son with the grandparents. We have an October UY and will still have points to use so we booked sons first trip for mid September 2021. We are also bringing the grandparents and aunt/uncle. When I booked this trip I thought there would be no way we would still be dealing with Covid in the fall of 21.

Now, it is looking like even if Covid is mostly gone or under control, mask requirements will still be in place for the foreseeable future. I know a lot of little kids do fine with masks but I have the most headstrong and stubborn little guy and just can’t see this going over well with him. I know on other boards people talk about just waiting to travel with small children until the mask requirements are lifted but DVC makes this a little more difficult as points can expire. I guess I could rent out our points but would really love to take my son while he is still a little guy. I guess my question is, have you put off trips or how are other parents out there planning DVC trips under current circumstances? I feel like I’ve been pushing back trip after trip and at a certain point I don’t know if I should just give it up and rent out my points and call it a day? I just never thought I would be worrying about masks for a trip in September 2021. 😟

Observations:

Crowds are way down in the parks, resorts, and Disney Springs. How nice and safe, HOWEVER;

I‘m retired and live nearby. I walk the parks several times a week. I don’t go on rides to avoid Covid transmission on surfaces and following the same person in line for 5-10 minutes... even 6 feet apart and with plexiglass dividers. Not worried so much for my health, but picking up Covid and passing it on.

I don’t walk the parks on Friday-Sunday, to avoid weekend travelers and locals who are in with their AP (like me) for an evening with friends. They are like a mobile “bar”. I assume they may have been exposed and can pass it on. I also leave areas where the crowd is more dense. I don’t go in stores.

I shudder watching children touching everything: swinging from chain dividers, running hands along posts, walls, etc. I noticed on cold snap days, mittens must prevent them from picking up viruses on touched surfaces, and they aren’t putting fuzzy fingers in their mouths, lol.

I would bring my grandchildren to the resorts to use the amenities. Very safe. I would walk them in a stroller. Safe. Carried toddlers: safe.

Walking? I would assume that they have a high chance of picking up viruses, etc., from surfaces, if they are moving about or riding rides.

Also, it seems like the kids have no problem with masks, except on hot days.

We just rented our DVC points and banked what we could. If it changes, I can use current year points or buy back rentals.
Note: I’m a last-minute DVC person. It’s pretty easy to get rooms right now and it usually isn’t.

From listening to leading epidemiologists, the prediction for wearing masks is into 2023.

Have you considered Aulani? Hawaii has done very well with containing the pandemic. Your toddler can enjoy the pools, beach, and water play areas without a mask.

I have and think that is a great idea but the problem is getting him to sit through (and wear a mask) on that longer flight. Maybe that would still be better than a week at WDW though?
